LADI"the core of the system"
In order to facilitate the design, monitoring and analy-
sis of grouting projects, Spie Fondations R&D
department have carried out the development of
a comprehensive computerized system.
Developed under different environments in
order to address the specific aspects of the
various project phases, the components of the
system exchange their data in the same
format, so that they are entirely compatible
between each other.
This software controls the grouting process through :
electromagnetic flowmeters,
pressure sensors, central unit collecting and transmitting the various data,
regulation units fitted on the grout pumps.
Main functions :
1) Assignment by the operator of a borehole
number for each connected grout pump.
Real-time values of up to 10 grout pumps
can be displayed on a color monitor.
2) For each grout pump, the following para-
meters are displayed :
borehole :
- zone,
- phase,
- stage number.
specific stage :
- type of grout mix,- stage depth,
- maximum allowable pressure,
- GIN (Grouting Intensity Number)
constant,
- theoretical stage volume,
- cumulative grout take,
- instantaneous flow rate,
- instantaneous pressure,
- head loss.
3) Grout pump regulat ion control according to the
above mentioned parameters :
regulation of the flow rate so that the maximum
authorized pressure is never exceeded,
shutdown of grout pump when :
- the maximum allowable pressure is reached with
the minimum possible flow rate,
- the maximum volume is reached,
- the GIN is reached,
- it is requested by the operator (e.g. in the event
of leakage, etc.).
4) The display of the grout stage parameters for eachborehole :
the real time pressure and flow rate in the form of
graphs and values,
and after a shutdown :
the average pressure,
the type of shutdown
pressure, flow rate and vo lume at the time of
shutdown.
5) The management of stages already processed and
remaining to be processed for each borehole.
Even if LADI, as its description suggests, can operate independently, it soon becomes time-consuming for the
operator to enter the instructions for each stages of every boreholes. That is why GENLADI has been developed.

GENLADITo be able to run, GENLADI requires information
about the geometry of the boreholes and the grout,
supplied by MICADO or GENFOR.
GENLADI enables the collection of the geometrical
data generated either by GENFOR or MICADO
softwares, which are described hereinafter, and
assigns the specific instructions related to the diffe-
rent types of formation encountered, for instance
the percentage of soil to be grouted, the allowable
pressure and the type of grout mix to be used.
All these items can be displayed on the monitor and
sent to LADI in the form of files.
It covers:
grout holes drilling logs,
grouting stages logs,
drilling quantities and theoretical grouting
volumes.
GENFOR& MICADOGENFOR enables input of basic simple geometrical
figures directly in tabular forms. As soon as the
geometry becomes more complex, it is necessary
to utilise MICADO.
MICADO was developed under AUTOCAD, enabling
every draftsman to take benefit from the full power
of this graphic software.
Once the area to be grouted, the soil, the under-
ground services and the various obstructions have
been modeled in 3-D, with the characteristics of
soil and grout defined, and the kinematics of thedrilling rig incorporated, the draftsman will use
MICADO to design, create, display and print the
following :
perspective views for a better understanding of
the geometry,
grout holes pattern and fans drawings,
grout holes and grouted area per fan drawings,
section drawings of theoretical grouting areas.
Similarly as a module for generating the various
parameters is needed by LADI to operate, another
is required for processing the data acquired. This is
the purpose of TAPIR.
TAPIRTAPIR enables the display and print of daily grou-
ting reports per borehole, indicating globally or for
each stage :
the theoretical grout take and the actual total
grout take,
the average and maximum flow rates,
the average and maximum pressure,
the type of grout,
the type of shutdown (Pmax, Vmax, GIN)
a compilation of these parameters per type of
grout mix.
It can also be used to draw up synthesis concentra-
ting in one document a set of information giving an
overall view of the grouting operations and prepare
the data to be sent to MICADO for the 3-D represen-
tation of the treatment done.
These synthesis forms, associated with graphs, are
used for drawing up assessments and, through
their easy interpretation, provide precious help to
the engineer, by combining an overall vision of the
project with a multi-criterion analysis of the grou-
ting parameters depending on the lithology
encountered and the type of grout mix used.
Accordingly, an overall analysis of the grouting pres-
sures associated with the total grout takes provides
an efficient survey of the "risk areas and, there-
fore, areas that may require additional treatment.
Finally, depending on these analysis, it is also
possible to carry out additional drilling with para-
meters recorded. This is a way among others to
confirm the quality of grouting operations.
AdvantagesIn conclusion, this system is characterized by a
continuous state of evolution in order to achievethe best quality :
with a concern of keeping close to reality by
working under 3-D conditions,
with a concern of coherency between the various
modules, linked closely together by the MID
(Matrise de l'Identification des Documents : Document Identifica-
tion Control) software, which efficiently manage
monitoring of the drawings and any modifica-
tions,
in using standard software and data formats
ensuring the permanence of the entire system
and an easier continuous development, accor-
ding to specific problems on each job site.
