HEALTH AWARENESS

NEWS FROM FACULTY OF BASIC & APPLIED SCIENCES

Expressing his views, the guest speaker Prof. Dr. Abu Sufyan Islahi said, critics have different opinions on Sir Syed's scripts, but the fact is that neither they read his books, nor they understood it. Shah Waliullah was the person who preached 'Quraniat' in the subcontinent, and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was highly impressed by

Shah Waliullah's personality and his set of guidelines. He gave a detailed account of Shah Waliullah's sons in his book Asar-ul-Sanadid.

He said, Sir Syed was a great man of the subcontinent with his great vision and farsightedness. He promoted Arabic, Persian and Urdu along with modern education. This is the reason why all these subjects were taught at MEO College. Although he was close to British regime, yet it didn't affect his Islamic identity. However, his religious and cultural thoughts were misinterpreted.

Syed Anwar Ali (Vice President AMUOBA), Muhammad Arshad Khan (General Secretary AMUOBA), Wasif Nazar Siddiqui (Joint Secretary AMUOBA), Tasneem Ahmed (Joint Secretary Publicity AMUOBA), Mr. Muhammad Aijazul Yaqin (Member Executive Committee AMUOBA), Registrar Mumtazul Imam and others were also present on the occasion. Renowned scholar and researcher Khawaja Razi Haider conducted the event beautifully. In the end, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar presented SSUET Souvenir bag to the guest.

Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Jawaid Anwar has said people always face severe consequences whenever professional ethics and moral values in the society are ignored. In the era of globalization, time demands us to bring positive change in the society in the light of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan's philosophy.

He was addressing the reception held by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Association (AMUOBA) in the honour of the renowned scholar Prof. Dr. Abu Sufyan Islahi, who is the Head of Arabic Department at Aligarh Muslim University.

He said, “Education plays a significant and effective role to improve the quality of Human lives and pave way for economic prosperity. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan initiated the great historical Aligarh Movement to bring revolution through education in the subcontinent.”

Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said, we tend to continue the mission of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, taking guidance from his ideological thoughts. He pointed out that Sir Syed's writing needs to be understood in its right perception.

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar also paid rich tribute to the noted scholar and writer Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan, who devoted his life to the development of the institutions. He made sincere efforts to the promotion of education and sports, focusing on youth, who are the bright future of the country.

CHANCELLOR JAWAID ANWAR

RECEPTION HELD BY AMUOBA IN THE HONOUR OF PROF. DR. ABU SUFYAN ISLAHI

Glowing tribute was paid to Alig mohsanin i.e. Khawaja Abdul Waheed, Brigadier Qamar us Salam, Younus Shah alias Piyarey Mian, General Ghulam Umar, Brigadier Sajjad Hussain, Engr. Z. A. Nizami, Engr. Muammad Zakir Ali Khan, Abul Lais Siddiqui, Syed Nonehal Zaidi, Qamar uz Zaman and Professor A. T.

Khan in a ceremony, held by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Association (AMUOBA) at Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET). Purpose of the event was to make people aware of the outstanding work and services of the mohsanins to motivate youth to follow them.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Jawaid Anwar said, in pursuit of our mohsanin we should do some exemplary work for the new generation to take advantage of.

He said, today time demands again to adopt the education system of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan that based on tolerance, patience and coexistence. The system focused on grooming and character building of the youth, who are the future of the country. No fruitful results may be derived without including them in the national development projects. Following his ideology, AMUOBA formed Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT) in the first phase and Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology in the second phase. For youth grooming, Sir Syed Institute for Youth Development and Research has been established at the university.

“We gave a new direction towards the journey of its progress. Measures taken by us to boost the image of the university paid us back. Sir Syed University earned the first position in the recent ranking, done by the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee, Sindh, he added.

On the auspicious occasion, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar th

told that Sir Syed University is celebrating 200 birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and different events have been organized in this reference. Memorial lectures by the noted scholars of international repute will also be given to highlight the

ideology of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The book titled “Sir Syed Ka Saqafati Tassawar” has been published and other book “Sir Syed University Ki Tareekh” is in the final stage of publishing.

Expressing their views about their fathers, Akbar Ali Khan, son of Engr. Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan, said establishment of AMUOBA was a great contribution of my father. He was the symbol of togetherness and cohesion. Farrukh Nizami said his father Engr. Z. A. Nizami was the expert of financial engineering. Asad Umar, son of General Umar, was of view that Aligarh spirit can bring revolutionary changes in the society and play an effective role for the development of Pakistan. And my father was the replica of Aligarh Spirit. Salim uz Zaman said about Qamar uz Zaman that his services were remarkable and unforgettable. Mohsin Khan, Sameera Hafeez, Tafuzzal Haider and Kamran Wahab also spoke on the occasion about the qualities and services of their fathers.

Presetting vote of thanks, General Secretary AMUOBA Muhammad Arshad Khan said, it is easy to quote examples instead of becoming a role model himself. If the contact between the bricks goes off, the wall falls down because of its own burden. Death doesn't mean stop of breathing, but loss of the people who remember you. Tragedy is that, people remember you after your death, in this country.

Chancellor Sir Syed University, Jawaid Anwar and General Secretary AMUOBA, Muhammad Arshad Khan addressing the event.

A group of students of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology had 3-day study tour to CPEC with 3 objectives: (1) Physical observation of the projects (2) Impact on Pakistan socially and culturally (3) Development of human resource.

The Former Ambassador to Germany and High Commissioner of Mauritius, Syed Hasan Javed, delivered a very comprehensive contemporary lecture regarding CPEC and its impact on Pakistan and neighboring countries.

Speaking on the occasion he said, “Education is the key to achieving modernization, and science and technology are the first line of defense for a society”. Hundreds of years ago, the Holy prophet Muhammad (SAW) has said, seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China. Today China emerged as a rising super power in Asia on the basis of higher education and reinventing their values.

Progress without higher education is unsustainable. 5 universities out of 10 major universities in Asia belong to China. 5000 students are doing MPhil in China and 4 million students of China getting higher education from overseas. 97% Chinese students are self-funded. China has become world second largest R&D performed country and boasts second largest number of think tank.

Students of Sir Syed University were amazed to see that a vast network of highways and railways are to be built under the aegis of CPEC that will span the length and breadth of Pakistan. They came to know that modern transportation networks being built under CPEC that will link seaports in Gwadar and Karachi with Northern Pakistan, as well as points further north in western China and Central Asia. Pakistan's railway network will also be extended to eventually connect to China's Southern Xinjiang Railway in Kashgar.

CPEC is a developing knowledge corridor, promising bundle of jobs. CPEC will be a strategic game changer in the region, which would go a long way in making Pakistan a richer and stronger entity than ever before. China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a collection of infrastructure projects that are currently under construction throughout Pakistan.

Syed Hasan Javed who is presently associated with a university in Islamabad as Director, Chinese Studies Centre of Excellence said, “China developed the concept of 'one belt one road' which includes 57 countries among which 53 are Muslim countries. Chinese know that prosperity of a country is connected to the prosperity of neighboring countries.”

Focusing on policy reforms, China is reforming intellectuals to develop intellectual reform society. China is investing in human resource sector to increase per capita income. As a result, a bundle of jobs is available in different sectors. Today China needs a large number of professionally skilled labour. On the contrary, people in Pakistan are still trapped in fascinating slogans in the era of globalization. We have the history of missing opportunities. Ribbon cutting culture should be replaced with the practical application of scientific knowledge in the society.

He urged to learn Chinese language and to comprehend the mindset of Chinese people and their culture. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan convinced Muslims to learn English at that time to develop a good rapport with them. Today time demands to follow Sir Syed's mission of getting higher education and scientific knowledge.

Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said “CPEC tends to bring revolutionary changes in the region and industrial growth. Pakistani youth will have tremendous opportunities through CPEC for showing their professional skills”. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Afzal Haq said, “Chinese have single track mind and devote themselves completely to the profession they are interested in. They are hardworking people and don't prefer any shortcuts. Rarely a few individuals may gain some benefits from the shortcuts but not the whole nation can be benefitted by it”.

The 2-hour test was held on time and a large number of candidates from Gilgit, Biltistan and Azad Kashmir besides other parts of the four provinces appeared in the test.

Chancellor of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Jawaid Anwar, visited the examination halls and appraised arrangements of the authorities concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Jawaid Anwar said that Sir Syed University prepares future leaders to succeed in the competitive world of professionals with their extra ordinary skills and outstanding abilities. Youth is the backbone of a society and without their participation in the national projects, no fruitful results may be achieved. Sir Syed University is performing its duties for grooming of youth at national level with complete responsibilities.

MICROSOFT ® .NET Framework 4.5 Development

Graphic and Web Designing

Training Certificate in Mobile and Cloud Computing (Using Web & Hybrid Technologies)

CEP Instructor Mr. Muhammad Mubbashir held a seminar on “PHP/MySQL, Web Engineering”. PHP/MySQL is a website development language which is the short form of Hypertext Preprocessor. MySQL is commonly used together with PHP in website development and is popular open source software. If the site is made of plane html then it will be very difficult to update it on a regular basis. With MySQL &PHP this problem can be easily solved as you can then use a content management section developed from which you can update your site without any html knowledge also. Classes started from July 9, 2017.

CEP Instructor Mr. Atif Hussain held a seminar on “MICROSOFT ® .NET Framework 4.5 Development”. Around 70 participants were registered. This course is designed to get students up to speed quickly on fundamental concepts in the CLR that all developers should be familiar with, including assembly versioning development. It is very demanding course for developer as per current market scenario. The course started from July 9, 2017.

CEP Instructor Mr. Arif Samad held a seminar on “Graphic and Web Designing Converting PSD to HTML”. In general, “PSD to HTML” is a workflow. First, a web page is designed in a Photoshop Document (PSD) and then converted to code (using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript). You could swap Photoshop with any other image editor (like Pixelmator, GIMP, and so on), but the principle is the same. In this course 30 participants were registered. It is a job oriented course, specialty in print media and web designing. The course started from July 16, 2017.

In uncomplicated malaria, symptoms progress as follows, through cold, hot, and sweating stages:· A sensation of cold with shivering· fever, headaches, and vomiting· seizures sometimes occur in younger people

with the disease· sweats, followed by a return to normal

temperature, with tirednessIn areas where malaria is common, many patients recognize the symptoms as malaria and treat themselves without visiting a doctor.

Malaria happens when a bite from the female Anopheles mosquito infects the body with Plasmodium. Only the Anopheles mosquito can transmit malaria. When an infected mosquito bites a human host, the parasite enters the bloodstream and lays dormant within the liver. The host will have no symptoms for an average of 10.5 days but the malaria parasite will begin multiplying during this time.

Treatment aims to eliminate the Plasmodium parasite from the patient's bloodstream. Those without symptoms may be treated for infection to reduce the risk of disease transmission in the surrounding population.Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) is recommended by the WHO to treat uncomplicated malaria. Artemisinin is derived from the plant Artemisia annua, better known as sweet wormwood. It is known for its ability to rapidly reduce the concentration of Plasmodium parasites in the bloodstream.ACT is artemisinin combined with a partner drug. The role of artemisinin is to reduce the number of parasites within the first 3 days of infection, while the partner drugs eliminate the rest.

Expanding access to ACT treatment worldwide has helped reduce the impact of malaria, but the disease is becoming increasingly resistant to the effects of ACT.In places where malaria is resistant to ACT, treatment must contain an effective partner drug. The WHO has warned that no alternatives to artemisinin are likely to become available for several years.

Causes

Treatment and prevention

27

Malaria is a life-threatening mosquito-borne blood disease caused by a Plasmodium parasite.

Symptoms

Uncomplicated malaria:

It is transmitted to humans through the bite of the Anopheles mosquito. Once an infected mosquito bites a human, the parasites multiply in the host's liver before infecting and destroying red blood cells. In some places, malaria can be treated and controlled with early diagnosis. However, some countries lack the resources to do this effectively.

Currently, no vaccine is licensed for use in the United States (U.S.) or globally, although one is available in Europe. Malaria was eliminated from the U.S. in the early 1950s, but between cases still occur each year, mostly in those who have recently traveled to malaria-endemic areas.

1,500 and 2,000

Malaria symptoms can be classified into two categories: uncomplicated and severe malaria.

This is diagnosed when symptoms are present, but there are no signs to indicate severe infection or dysfunction of the vital organs. This form can become severe malaria if left untreated, or if the host has poor or no immunity. Symptoms of uncomplicated malaria typically last 6 to 10 hours and recur every second day. Some strains of the parasite can have a longer cycle or cause mixed symptoms. As symptoms resemble those of flu, they may be undiagnosed or misdiagnosed in areas where malaria is less common.
