IV EMPLOYEMENTS 1) 2005- To Date- Senior lecturer Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Nairobi. Lectureship and clinical teaching of postgraduate students in Paediatrics, Medicine and Radiology. Supervising M.Med postgraduate students dissertations. Teaching clinical and bedside cardiology to the Undergraduate students in the third and fourth year classes 2) 1994- 2005 – Lecturer Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. This includes teaching of Paediatrics and cardiology to the undergraduate from the integrated lectures of third years, the cardiology series of fourth year, cardiac imaging to the Postgraduate radiology students. 3) 1990-1994- Paediatrician Kenyatta National Hospital and Cardiology Trainee. This involved day to day running of the Paediatric services at the Kenyatta National Hospital including teaching Nurses and clinical officers from the Medical Training College (MTC) and the university of Nairobi Undergraduate and Post graduate students. 4) 1987- 1990- Senior Medical Officer (KNH) Registrar Department of Paediatrics University of Nairobi. This is Postgraduate residency training in Paediatrics, upon which I successfully completed the course and was awarded a Masters degree in Paediatrics 5) 1986-1987 –Medical Officer -Accident and Emergency Department Kenyatta National Hospital Nairobi. This is the busiest casualty department in the country, attending to between 220 to 350 emergencies on a daily basis. It has a wide variety of caseloads including medical and surgical; children and adults; men and women. It also attends to mass accidents within Nairobi and Nationwide 6) 1985-1986 – Medical officer 1, New Nyanza Provincial General Hospital Kisumu. This involved general medical care but in addition I had the opportunity to represent the hospital in legal cases requiring expert medical opinion. 7) 1984- 1985 – Medical Officer 11(Internship) Provincial General Hospital New Nyanza Kisumu. This involved one year of supervised internship in the disciplines of Paediatrics, Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics. Upon which I was registered as a medical doctor

V5: Gertrude’s Garden Children’s Hospital

1) Responds to their distress call when faced with difficult cardiac patients by providing cardiovascular services via portable echocardiography to the intensive care unit, neonatal unit, pediatric and adult wards.

2) Providing ready and regular telephone consultancy

V7- Litein Mission Hospital

1) By using a portable echocardiogram I have been able to provide cardiovascular diagnostic services at a constant rate of four times a year and referred the patients for further care at the Kenyatta and National Hospital

V8- New Nyanza Hospital (now The Jaramogi Oginga Teaching And Referal Hospital) 1) Provided outreach cardiac consultancies using portable echocardiography for both paediatric and adult patients

2) Provided one to one consultation to the consultants as the patients are reviewed and also available for distant telephone consultations

VI- NATIONAL VOLUNTARY SERVICES

VI (I) University of Nairobi ; - Patron of the University of Nairobi students Rheumatic Heart Disease support club which also incorporates the CLAN (caring and living as neighbours) concept.

VI (II): Mater Hospital Cardiac program ;

Instrumental in setting up and sustaining a successful paediatric cardiac treatment program at the Mater Misericordie Hospital. Through this initiative the Mater Hospital is now the leading Hospital in Paediatric heart surgery and therapeutic nterventions in East and Central Africa. This program -

a) Has served as an alternative means to assist the needy children with simple and complex cardiac malformation in Kenya and its environs

b) Has helped in reducing the long waiting list for patients who would have otherwise succumbed to their ailment while waiting for treatment at the only congested facility of the National hospital

c) It is an alternative training facility of specialization in cardiac surgery, cardiac anaesthesia and Paediatric Cardiology

d) Has provided a forum for exchange of technology through organised targeted missions for treating complex cardiac malformations.

VI (III) Voluntary medical camps and Rheumatic fever campaigns:

I have participated and assisted in organising voluntary countrywide Cardiac Medical camps covering various counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos, Bungoma, Kitui, Kericho, Nakuru, Embu, Kisumu, Makueni, Isiolo, Mombasa and Meru.Children were treated for sore throats, screened and treated

for Heart ailments. Those needing further care were referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital and the Mater Hospital

VI (IV) Fund raising activities

Participated in the organization of raising activities to support paediatric cardiovascular services in the country through the heart runs and willing donors and international organizations

VI (V) Take Heart Association- this organization serves as a hospice for very sick cardiac children from within and outside Nairobi who require prolonged follow-ups. I have offered free consultancy and care to them

VI (VI) Down’s Syndrome Society of Kenya – assisted in cardiac screening for this vulnerable group
