Associate role leading the construction stages of a major housing development in Stanmore north london as well as a complex development of an existing church site to reprovide the church, a library and c. 40no. residential units on the same site.

In this role I have taken on a new level of responsibility leading teams and going out of the office to act as an ambassador for the firm during the critical first year of a new practice to help consolidate the firm’s identity and work between the directors and other staff to support design and delivery.

2006 - 2010HAWKINS\BROWN, LONDON Project architect with particular specialism in housing and housing led masterplanning working on all project stages. Also gaining experience in Office, Transport, Education (secondary and higher) and competitive bidding through design work and through OJEU.

At the outset of my appointment at Hawkins\Brown I was working in a small team under the guidance of an Associate to produce construction information to a very tight schedule for the contractor, United House as novated architects in collaboration with a full suite of consultants. This was a housing development of approx 80 units, with a 35% affordable component as well as a speculative B1 office component. The building was completed last year to a good reception.

CORBY CUBE, EAST MIDLANDS

Sector: Local Authority / ArtsClient: Corby Borough CouncilContract: JCT Standard Building Contract, value approx £30mRole: Package Architect

I was asked to work as a package architect with design, detailing and coordination responsibility for the unitised glazed facade of this innovative multi mixed use building, a package with a value of £3.5m in itself. Working with sustainability consultants Max Fordham, the building is passively ventilated and cooled, with the facade playing a large part in this. The mixed programme includes a theatre, council offices and ‘one-stop’ services, bars and restaurants and a public library on an inclined ramp. The building recently achieved a BREEAM excellent rating. I have been involved through liaising with the chosen subcontractor and inspecting prototypes in Cologne and on-site work in Corby. My involvement has now begun to wind down as the facade has all but been installed, but this was an invaluable experience. The building as a whole is due to complete in spring / summer this year.

2003

DEPTFORD WHARVES, LONDON SE8

Sector: Housing Led Mixed UseClient: City and Provincial Plc.Contract: n/aRole: Project Architect (working alongside a project associate)

I worked on this 4.5ha housing led regeneration scheme close to the Convoys Wharf site in Lewisham to provide c. 1,000 new homes and 1m sqft of new non-residential space of various types. I led negotiations with Lewisham as well as extensive public consultation, managing an extensive suit of other consultants to bring forward a masterplan and lay the foundations for a hybrid detailed and outline planning application. This was a fascinating opportunity to discuss a scheme directly with officers over a protracted period in a complex policy context including making presentations to CABE and producing a number of targeted presentations to discuss policy and coordinate with the emerging UDP in the area. I gained extensive experience in London Plan, CABE and local Lewisham policy as well as skills in presenting design work to officers and members of the public alike.

BOROUGH HIGH ST, LONDON SE1

Sector: B1 OfficeClient: Sellar PropertiesContract: Design and Build, Value, £1.5 - 2mRole: Project Architect

I am acting as lead project architect to deliver an infill new build office building for Sellar as part of the enabling works for the Shard development at London Bridge. This will be to decant LUL staff from existing accommodation. The infill is a flying freehold on a heavily constrained site in the Borough High Street conservation area. Work on this project has helped to build a new relationship with this high profile client and has already led to new commissions on which i am currently working. The scheme is at Stage E.
