SEPTEMBER 2016

We are so excited to be offering our second Finan-cial Peace University class this fall! We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace Univer-

sity (FPU) is that plan. It teaches God’s ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions, and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!

At the end of our last class, the group paid off a total of $44,863 in debt, saved $7,797, and canceled/cut up 20 credit cards! One couple said, “We are now on the same page with the budget,” after taking the class. In recent years, our culture’s moral climate has shifted dramatically. I know that no political party can turn this country around. The only hope for the people of America

is God’s Son, Jesus Christ. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has already gone to more than half of the 50 states to proclaim the truth of God’s Gospel and has thou-sands of people join each rally. These rallies invite Christians to fervently pray for our nation and its leaders, and to challenge Christians to boldly take a stand for God’s truth. At each stop, which will be in the capital city of each state, I will also strongly urge believers to run for public office at every level and to get out and vote—to cast their ballots for candidates who uphold Biblical principles. Through your prayers and gifts, you play a key role in proclaiming God’s Word to a nation that desperately needs to hear it.

Thank you, Franklin Graham, president of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association

You can make a difference!People of all ages, including church groups and entire families, have come by the thousands to their state capital for each prayer rally. We pray in repentance for the sins of the nation, the sins in our families, and our own sins. And we pray for our country and its future. America has turned its back on God, and we are now reaping the rewards of that folly. Churches and Christians across this USA are be-ing challenged to cry out to God in repentance and prayer for our nation and to stand boldly for God’s truth.

Franklin Graham and people from his organization will be in Harrisburg on Thursday, September 15 to hold a prayer rally for our state and nation. Please plan to attend, bringing friends and family and those of your church and community to stand united for the only hope this nation has—belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Will you be a warrior for America? If you are interested in this event, please contact June Smith (834-4917).

Deaf signing

Jessica Bentley-Sassaman and Gina DiFiore-Ridolph generously offer their services as interpreters for the deaf at our 9am Sunday Celebration. If you need this

service, please try to sit in the first row on the right side of the multi-purpose room as Jessica and Gina sign the lyrics to our worship music and the sermons.

Online giving

We’ve all been there. The ushers walk to the front of the room and you begin the frantic search of your pockets looking for your offering envelope,

only to remember it’s still sitting on the kitchen table. For-get the stress and check out Cornerstone’s online giving. This secure platform allows you to safely use your credit card, debit card, or a bank transfer to give your offering as you normally would. All donations are tracked and we provide a chartiable giving receipt to you at the end of the year, or you can access your account anytime to track your giving. Visit cccduncannon.com/donate for more information or to get started.

Faith goes beyond reason. It goes past the dysfunction and hopelessness we may be experiencing and sees who and what we can one day be because of who God is. Just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean He is not there. Faith is beyond what you can see. If you are interested in being baptized, please contact the church office or be on the lookout for a sign-up sheet at the Wel-come Center in the upcoming weeks.

Fresh Express Program

In conjunction with other Perry County VFWs and Ameri-can Legions, VFW Post 7463 in New Bloomfield is team-ing up with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s Military

Share Program.

This program is designed to provide fresh, nutritious foods for families with at least one member who served in the Armed Forces. In Central Pennsylvania nearly 26 percent of households receiving food assistance have at least one member who served in the military.

While the specific items distributed will vary based on the Food Bank’s available inventory, each eligible registered family will receive fresh produce, one quart of milk, one dozen eggs, cheese, and a box of shelf-stable pantry items such as soup, pasta, sauce, and cereal. When available, meat, fish, and poultry products may also be included. Food will be distributed the last Thursday of the month beginning August 25 from 12noon to 1pm at VFW Post 7463, 71 Soule Road, New Bloomfield.

PLEASE NOTE: Preregistration is required to participate in this program and must be done no later than Thursday, Au-gust 18. The program is open to all Perry County veterans, veterans’ families, widows, and children, active duty mem-bers, National Guard, Reservists, and their families living in Perry County. Those wishing to participate will need to provide proof of service in the Armed Forces with a military ID card, copy of Discharge Papers, VA Medical Card, or DD214, and have that proof with them when they arrive for pickup.

For more information contact Bob Snook (582-7776 or [email protected]) or Deon Denualt (589-4209).

It is hard to believe that we are embarking on our FIFTH year of serving a Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving to all of our friends and neighbors, isn’t it? Who knew that

five years ago, this event would become such an awesome Reach ministry for our church. Every year we have more and more people who either come to join us for dinner at the church, or pick-up their takeout meals to take home and enjoy with their families!

I don’t know about you, but I’m already starting to think about this year’s dinner! Last year we had well over 40 volunteers, and served a total of MORE than 225 people (including takeout, volunteers, dine-in, and delivery to local EMS buildings)! What a fantastic way to share God’s love with those in our community. I’m hoping to make our fifth year the best year yet! I’ll be looking for volunteers and ideas on things we can do to make this year extra special. Right now, I’m trying to put together a small team of people who want to help me get the word out in a real and meaningful way (think inviting the press, and send-ing letters to local radio stations, and Blue Ridge Cable), so if you’re interested in helping with advertising the 2016 Thanksgiving Dinner, please email me (cornerstonesrocks [email protected]) or call/text me (514-2375). I look forward to hearing from YOU!

More information about the Thanksgiving Dinner will be coming out, so be sure to look for it, and remember, I’m looking for ideas to make this our best dinner yet!

Celebrate even small victories.

You cannot receive grace if you think it’s a reward for something you have done.Paul and Nicole Johnson

One day you’ll be just a memory for some people. Do your best to be a good one.

Unanswered prayerThe preacher’s five-year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his head for a moment before starting his sermon. One day, she asked him why.

“Well, honey,” he began, proud that his daughter was so observant of his messages. “I’m asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon.”

“How come He doesn’t answer it?” she asked.

Untimely answered prayerDuring the minister’s prayer one Sunday, there was a loud whistle from one of the back pews. Tommy’s mother was horrified. She pinched him into silence and, after church, asked, “Tommy, whatever made you do such a thing?”

Tommy answered soberly, “I asked God to teach me to whistle, and He did!”

Going green!

We’ve got recycling bins lo-cated outside the kitchen un-der the tables in the hallway.

Anyone that works in the kitchen for any functions or activities or uses other church supplies—check and see if you can recycle the packaging. The bins are marked for a number of recyclable items. Go green!

Save your containers

Don’t know what to do with those large plastic containers—big butter tubs, gallon ice cream tubs—you no longer use? How about donating

them to the church kitchen? We have had a number of food-related events lately at the church, and we’re running out of large containers to store leftovers. If you’ve got ‘em, just drop them off in the kitchen some Sunday morning.

Follow along

We’re offering an interactive way for you to follow along with the Sunday morning sermons

through a FREE App and Web site called You Version. Go to youversion.com for the Bible portion of the program, and youversion.com/live where you’ll type in our zip code (17020) for the ability to fol-low along with the sermon on your iPhone while Pastor David delivers the message. It’s a great way to get into the Word and follow the messages. Check it out!

Need a new box of offering envelopes? Just stop by the Welcome Center on Sunday

mornings and pick up a box.
