Carbeen, Corymbia tessallaris, is a fast growing evergreen tree, which is found extensively throughout the Queensland coast, Northern Territory and Western Australia. The lower trunk of the tree is dark greyish with rough, cracked bark, whereas the top of the tree is smooth and grey or white in colour.

Carbine Close Smithfield Named after a mountain theme, Mount Carbine is a mountain and a

town on the Atherton Tablelands.

Card Avenue Manunda Named after G. M. Card, a civil engineer who was Manager of the

Mr Michael Leiper Cochrane (1864–1934) was the second Town Clerk in Cairns from 1898-1916 and was also the first acting Secretary of the Cairns Harbour Board. Prior to his service to the Council he was with the Queensland National Bank from 1886. He was a breeder and judge of Ayrshire cattle as well as being a member of several Masonic Lodges in the Cairns District.

Cochrane Street Stratford Named after Samuel Cochrane who took up property near Stratford

that he called Lilybank on 27 March 1878. He grew maize, English potatoes, sweet potatoes and pumpkins. He also owned the Lilybank Hotel. Around 1889 selling his property to A J Draper he left Cairns.

Coconut Street Holloways Beach Streets in this suburb are named after floral and tree theme after a

suggestion from resident Ann Edwards. The coconut (Cocos nucifera) that is believed to come from Spanish meaning ‘monkey-face’. One tree can produce up to 50 nuts, and a tree can live up to a hundred years. All parts of the coconut tree provide a use including shade, food, drink, matting, and shelter.

Wright Creek. He was also an early butcher, who in partnership with George Mackay had a business in Abbott Street. He was elected to the Cairns Divisional Board 1880–1902.

partnership with George Mackay had a business in Abbott Street where the Ling and Tovey Chemist shop was later established, and

Cowley Street Kamerunga Named after Ebenezer Cowley, born in England in 1848. He studied

tropical agriculture in Africa during his early life and later joined his cousin, A. C. Cowley who later became Sir Alfred Cowley in growing sugar cane in the Herbert River area. He established the Kamerunga State Nursery in 1889 and as Manager he was responsible for the introduction and experimentation for a wide range of tropical crops. He was also a botanical collector and several plant species are named after him. He died in 1899 at the age of 50 years and is buried in the McLeod Street Cemetery.
