From the Pastor
Peace be with you. I need your help with something very serious. We have tried to solve this problem without alerting the whole parish but it is now time to have all of you conscious of the fact that we are regularly finding Eucharistic Hosts in the Church after Mass, often on the floor. Last week we not only found another Host on the floor in the pews but in a rather bizarre development we also found hosts at three different Holy Water fonts at the entrances. This is a serious problem. There is nothing more Sacred in our trust as Catholics as to safeguard the Eucharist. As pastor I have a special duty to ensure this. Here is how you can help First, when you come to Holy Communion please be reminded that you should receive directly on your tongue or if you receive Communion in your hand that you immediately put the Host directly into your mouth. It is wrong to hold the Host and walk three steps and consume it while you are walking away. 95% of you do not violate this but some have forgotten this norm. Second, I need you all to be my eyes as we have not been able to spot who is doing this. Simply notice if someone is clearly not consuming the Eucharist and when you leave the pew at the end of Mass check the bench and the pew to make sure that there is nothing there. If you find something, please inform me or Fr. Reilly and we will handle it from there. Some of the Hosts have been clearly in the mouth of a person so we will carefully dispose of the Host using the “Sacrarium” in the sacristy. I highly suspect that this is not something being done with an evil intent. I remember this happening in a Church I was in and it turned out that it was a person with dementia who had no idea anymore what the Eucharist was. If you are someone who accompanies someone to Church who is forgetful please be extra vigilant to make sure they consume the Host. Sometimes it is people that feel obligated to get into the line for Communion so as to not stick out but feel they cannot receive. Please know there is no stigma for not coming up to Holy Communion, and you can always cross your arms across your chest and the priest will give you a blessing if you do come forward. Whatever is the cause we need to figure it out as a community and deal with it. In a related way, I am also switching where we locate the keys to the two Tabernacles to safeguard them. I am asking that all Pastoral Visitors be in contact with Mary Ann Thomas regarding the new procedures. Let us all pray that this will not happen again, but for now I need you to keep watch with me so that we can ensure this. Blessings on you and your families, Bishop Mark

our 6 and 7 year olds. You won’t be disappointed.

Christ’s Hands Easter Clothing Drive
Christ’s Hands is conducting the annual Easter Clothing Drive to benefit the children living in the Merrimack Court Housing Project in Lawrence. Clothing appropriate for Easter Sunday for children up to 14 years of age, new or nearly new, will be collected after all the masses leading up to Palm Sunday. Donations may be placed in the collection boxes at the entrances of the church. Faith Formation students may bring their donations to class for the next few weeks. Thank you for helping bring smiles to these children’s faces on Easter Sunday. The week of April 15, the children in the After School Program at Si, Se Puede in Lawrence will have Easter Parties sponsored by Christ’s Hands. If you would like to help with goodies for this party, please put Doritos, raisins, or pretzels into the collection boxes around the church by Sunday, April 14th. Your continued generosity is making these beautiful children very happy. Thank you! Barbara Celata Director of Christ’s Hands
