CORPUS CHRISTI CATHEDRAL 4TH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 22, 2020

LAETARE SUNDAY The Fourth Sunday of Lent is known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare means “rejoice” and the Church expresses hope and joy in the middle of our penitential Lenten practices. Rose is the color of rejoicing, so we briefly change the liturgical color, using rose-colored vestments and paraments. This is also the midpoint of our Lenten season. As we reach this milestone, reflect on the spiritual goals you set at the beginning of the season. How are you fulfilling them? (from usccb.org)

BISHOP MULVEY’S 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY On behalf of the Corpus Christi Cathedral, and all of the parishioners, we would like to extend a special congratulations to Bishop Mulvey as he celebrates the 10 year anniversary of his Episcopal Ordination as Bishop of Corpus Christi this week. The Mass of Thanksgiving

originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th has been canceled due to precautions for the coronavirus. Join us in praying for Bishop Mulvey as he celebrates this special anniversary.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS It is important that during this time of uncertainty we stay calm and remember to be respectful of each other. The Diocese of Corpus Christi has issued these following precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please stay home if you are sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms. The sign of peace will be temporarily suspended. Holding hands during mass is strongly discouraged. It is encouraged to receive communion in the hand rather than on the tongue. The Cathedral 9:30AM (English) and 11:00AM (Spanish) Sunday masses are always livestreamed at goccn.org. You may also follow the link to listen to the mass live, or tune in to the radio station, KLUX 89.5. On top of these recommendations we also ask that you remember to practice good hygiene as well.

SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION OF THE LORD - MARCH 25TH

For Catholics, the theological importance of the Annunciation is it’s marking of the beginning of the fulfillment of God’s promises and preparations (CCC 484). Mary’s assent to the angel’s announcement was the beginning of Christ’s Incarnation; God’s coming into the world a fully human, born as we are born, with a grace-filled human mother. We remember each year that it was the beginning of Christ’s coming for our salvation. It may not always be the easiest thing to do, but Mary shows us that we must listen to and do God’s will. Let us follow her example this Lent. (from usccb.org)
