Catechetical Sunday

Last week, the Church celebrated Catechetical Sunday on September 16 with the theme “Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ.” Every year, Catechetical Sunday provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each of us plays, by virtue of our Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. We would especially like to acknowledge those who have answered their Baptismal call by becoming catechists. Thank you to the following people for your willingness to share the joy of the Gospel:

Ellen Abbadessa, Lily Arama, Kevin Arnold, Tricia Arnold, Maritza Binier, Carol Brescia, Kathy Carter, Kayla and Marsha Casey, Mindy Chau, Amy Diederich, Miriam and Izzy Doyle, Daniel Esquer, Yvette and Caitlyn Gallaher, Angela Gaetano, Kelly Gersbach, Courtney Gertson, Izabelle Gibson, Myra Gonzalez, Melissa Harshbarger, Gloria Jewett, Jessica and Allison Kolodzej, Beji Rose Kulgerma, Debbie Lambert, Marianne and Emma Luken, Regina Lynde, Linda McCormack, Toni Monti, Morgan Morano, Joe Muller, Terri Owens, Maureen Pass, Jan Reckenberger, Kiki Reynolds, Gabby Rios, Joan Roth, Mari Rubio, Elizabeth Saba, Karen Salotti, Chris Smith, Cynthia Smith, Marybeth and Connor Smith, Jill Vavro, Catherine Warren, Ana Wenker, Nhu-Ha Yup, and Viet Zaengle

Let us keep them and all those entrusted with instructing the Faith in our prayers:

Prayer for Catechists

O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists

to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving

and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them,

a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges,

is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed

with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists.

May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples,

contributing our gifts to the communion of faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

boxes will be in the pavilion: September 29th -- October 31st

Along with coats, warm clothing of all sizes and blankets will also be accepted. There is a particular need for sweat shirts and sweat pants in large sizes. These items will be donated to SVdP’s Ministry to the Homeless. Thank you for your continued support!!

Healing Mass Tuesday, October 2 at 6:00 pm

Each Healing Mass will include a half-hour of Adoration. There is no better way, or place, to surrender all our sufferings, pains, anxieties, and worries than to the Divine Physician present in the Eucharist. During Adoration, the priest or deacon will bring the monstrance to each person to pray for specific healing.

Please note, the Anointing of the Sick is not offered during the Healing Mass, as this sacrament is intended for when “anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age” and “just prior to a serious operation” (CCC 1514,1515). If you would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please call the Parish Office.

Corpus Christi AFSA (Ahwatukee Foothills Senior Association)

All Seniors are invited to attend the Corpus Christi AFSA meetings and luncheons. They will be held September-May on the first Thursday of each month from 11:30am-1:30pm in the Parish Center. Cost is $15 for AFSA members and $17 for non-members. For more information and to RSVP for the October 4th luncheon, please call Dee at 480-893-0300 or Sue at 480-469-9388. Deadline to RSVP is Sunday, September 30.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) serves children ages 4 and older until the reception of First Communion (3rd grade). This is a time to engage young minds and hearts during Mass as the children are invited to hear God’s Word and participate in the Liturgy in a way they can more easily understand.

CLOW will take place during the 8:30 am and 10:30 am Masses on Sunday, October 7.

Pancake Breakfast News!

The date is set — October 14 — and the “Breakfast Bunch” is eager to “rustle up the fixin’s” for another fabu-lous Pancake Breakfast!

After all the morning Masses on the 14th, adults can “chow down” on pancakes, eggs, sausage, and pastries, plus enjoy hot and cold drinks for only $5.00 — it’s even less for family members under 12 years old!

More important than having the best breakfast deal in town, the Pancake Breakfast is an excellent time to enjoy the companionship and camaraderie of fellow parishioners. As a bonus, proceeds from this event support the education of Corpus Christi’s seminarians. Come join us for this warm and hospitable gathering; you’ll be glad you did!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register? All Catholics living in the Parish area and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs.

Adults 18 and over need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get married, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors.

In order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or to receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program.

Registration forms can be filled out in the Parish Office or via our parish website. How do I have my child Baptized? Before scheduling the date, please call the Office for a welcoming conversation with the priest. A preparation class is also required for parents prior to the child’s Baptism and are offered once a month. How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing of the Sick? Please call the parish office at 480-893-8770 DO NOT WAIT until someone is near death to have the person anointed! Although Anointing of the Sick was once known as “Last Rites,” waiting until a person is near death could risk that person not being able to receive the Sacrament if he or she should pass away prior to the priest being able to arrive. Anointing of the Sick can only be administered while the person is still alive. How do I get married in the Church? The Diocese of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage preparation process. John Deg, Director of Married Life Ministries, will meet with you to explain the process, including when you will meet with the Pastor to set a date. Do NOT set the date prior to this meeting as it cannot be guaranteed until then.

For the P celebration, the Corpus Christi Knights of Columbus Council 10062 will furnish free transportation via a first-class coach, as well as light refreshments and snacks. Departure will be from the north parking lot at Noon on the 21st and will return at approximately 5:00 pm. All parishioners are welcome to take advantage of this service. Please sign-up in the Parish Office.
