Archbishop Beckman of Dubuque authored this prayer to
our patron saint, St. Columbkille:
O Glorious St. Columbkille, Patron of our Parish, our homes,
and our children, behold us beseeching thy powerful intercession,
at the throne of Jesus.
Intercede for us that we may worthily imitate your virtues,
especially your great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Turn to
Jesus on the altar, and never cease to pray for us until the fire of
Divine Love burns brightly and steadfastly in all our hearts. Obtain
for us dear Patron, the true spirit of charity.
Protect the education of our children. Bless the labors of those
who work for them. We invoke your powerful intercession to save
us from the many attacks against our faith and morals in these
trying days, and for the promotion and increase of our virtues.
Pray for us now and always, that faithfully fulfilling the duties of
our state of life, we may love Jesus and Mary with our whole hearts,
and thus prove worthy of your love and protection. Amen.
At age 76, on June 9, 597 AD St. Columbkille entered Eternal
Life.
Would you like to join the ACCW? The Dubuque
Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women is looking to increase their
membership. To become a member you need to give a donation of
$10 along with your name, address, and your email address. You can
put in an envelope and drop off at the Parish Office or mail directly to
Mary Esther Pullin, ACCW Treasurer, 2185 W. Shaulis Road,
Waterloo, Iowa 50701.
The ACCW works in partnership with the mission and goals of our
Archdiocese to strengthen programs for on-going education in the
faith, to enhance the Sunday Assembly for Holy Mass, to teach
stewardship as a way of life and to promote vocations and priesthood
in particular. ACCW is also committed to supporting our seminarians,
deacons, priests and all religious through cards, gifts and Masses. Each
priest receives a blue and white Jerusalem Cross stole upon their
ordination.
St. Columbkille Catholic Church
welcomed the following graduates of the
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
(RCIA) into full communion with the
Catholic Church during Pentecost weekend Masses on May 30 and
May 31: Cole and Agnieszka Cluchey, Tim Klousia, Shana
Hackett, Megan Eisel, Amy Engelman, Josh Wernimont, Mitchel
Gill, Cody McDermott and Julie Huguelet, 2nd graders from these
families who received their First Holy Communion were Elina
Kutsch and Natalia Cluchey. The sacrament of Baptism was
celebrated with Annabelle and Natalia Cluchey and Ronan Kutsch.
We congratulate these families for their attendance at weekly
meetings to learn the doctrine of the Catholic faith and for being
examples of the Domestic Church in their homes.
Sunday
During This Stressful Time we have had
to adopt new guidelines for the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. For the time being we can only
do confessions by appointment. If you want to
make an appointment, please call the Parish
Office and the secretary will ask you a few
questions and get your first name and your
telephone number. The secretary will then
contact Fr. Paul and he will call you direct
either to set up an appointment or just talk to
you on the phone. We don’t like this situation
any better than you do—but we have to be safe
AND we want YOU to be safe as well.
“...shelter us under the mantle of your protection,
keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always
to know the love of your Son, Jesus. Amen.”
-- Intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe

June 7, 2020
The school year—like none before, and hopefully never
pandemic impacted again—ended last week. Middle school into
college are the years when the human experience of adolescence
is lived out. More and more one wants to be my own person—
free and independent of parental or other guidance. At the
same time, I will want a place to call home, to belong, or to go
when feeling vulnerable or hurt.
From where does that tensive set of desires—to be a solo actor,
and yet deeply communal at the same time—come? Would it
surprise you to find it rooted in our being made in the image
and likeness of our Trinitarian God?
You and I yearn to experience simultaneously full autonomy
and complete belonging—to be known by name, but now
known to be apart from the group—because God who loves us
into being, is three unique Persons, and yet radically ONE. In
God, all desires are in perfect harmony. Not so much with sin-
affected you and I.
But we yearn to experience what God made us for—life in the
Trinity! That is what makes our being Christian the gift it is,
and reason to celebrate this weekend. That is why celebrating
the Eucharist is so satisfying to us! Along with saving us from
our sins, in Jesus Christ each unique one of us belongs in the
love-communion that is our God! We would not know this if
Jesus Christ each unique one of us belongs in the love-
communion that is our God! We would not know this if Jesus
had not shown that there is a place prepared for us (Jn 14:1-6)—in
the Father’s house—within the Trinity’s love. Jesus revealed
that He and the Holy Spirit are a much God as is the Father.
Our Jewish or Muslim friends hope to be with God, but not
within. They profess God is one but only one. No room for
belonging in to satisfy us. Our Buddhist and Hindu friends hope
to be lost and absorbed into “consciousness”—too little uniquely
loved me to satisfy. That is why Yoga practices might have
physical benefits, but most Christians don’t appreciate its
spiritual purpose. There is danger in that! You might be
shaping yourself for more than you know, and less than you are
created for. Much less! We glory in the name Christian! Life
within the Trinity can be mine and still ours!

The 4:15 pm Saturday Mass will continue
to be livestreamed.
Due to the Corona Virus there is no

The Eucharist other than at Sunday
Mass. But we must still practice social
