Thewhole thing revolvesaround a travel narrativecentered on a characterappropriately namedMariko the Wanderer.Mysteriously hailing froma period somewhere inthe mammoth range ofthe 12th to the 22ndcenturies, Mariko'sjourney involves movingWest from Japan, insearch of a Buddhistparadise. Her successfulquest is marked by theadditional discovery of adark purgatorial space.All of the character'smemories--both visualand textual--arerendered in 'The Travelsof Mariko.' Users becomethe lead character, seeingthe world through hereyes as a joystick steersthem through thisfictional space. Theactual project is doing abit of touring, premieringat this week's ISEAfestival, in San Jose,before moving on to
