Emergency water supply storage kits and barrels to be available for purchase In the event of a regional emergency caused by an earthquake or other disaster, the water supply could be temporarily interrupted in many areas of the City. It is important that people have an adequate emergency source of drinking water on hand to supply each person for at least sev- eral days. However, storing adequate emer- gency water supplies can be a challenge. To help businesses prepare for an emer- gency, starting September 10, the City of Cer- ritos Department of Water and Power will sell 55-gallon lightweight barrels and emer- gency water storage kits. The barrels can be used as emergency water storage units. The water emergency storage kit includes a wrench to open and close the container, a siphon hose and an instructional sheet. Barrels will be available for $5 and emergency water storage kits will be $10. There is a limit of one kit and/or barrel per business. Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar will soon be coming to Cerritos. The Cerritos City Council recently ap- proved a proposal by Lingle Design Group, Inc. to demolish the former 10,931-square- foot Black Angus restaurant building and construct a new 6,907-square-foot restaurant building with an additional 1,915-square-foot outdoor dining area for Buffalo Wild Wings. The parcel is located in Best Plaza at 11255 183rd Street. Lingle Design Group, Inc. will upgrade the site by adding landscape planters and providing eight additional parking spaces. The restaurant’s extensive multi-media system, full bar and open layout will ap- peal to sports fans and families alike. The restaurant will feature three roof levels and a tower element at the main entrance with deco- rative cornice mold- ings. The proposed rooftop equipment and trash areas will be decoratively screened. The roof of the outdoor dining area will include a standing seam metal roof to provide shade and protection from the elements. The outdoor dining area will include televi- sions and heaters, and will be enclosed with 4-foot-high decorative wrought iron, pilaster fencing and landscaping. The exterior finishes of the building will include stucco walls with split face block at the base of the building and decorative brick and ceramic tile accents. The windows will include canvas awnings, and decorate lighting will be placed at various locations to highlight the building’s architecture. The paint color scheme will include earthtones with yellow, black and white accents. Buffalo Wild Wings is known for its Buf- falo-style chicken wings and its 14 signa- ture sauces. In addition to chicken wings, the restaurant offers wraps, sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, nachos and more. Demolition is expected to take place in September, and the restaurant is expected to open in January 2011. Buffalo Wild Wings coming to Cerritos Kia of Cerritos now open Kia of Cerritos recently opened at 18201 Studebaker Road in the Cerritos Auto Square. The 4.74-acre parcel includes the two- story automobile dealership with a total building area of 58,863 square feet. The dealership is the largest Kia store in the United States. The dealership will generate an estimat- ed additional $14 million of revenue for the City/Redevelopment Agency through the generation of rent and sales tax over the 15-year lifetime of the lease. When fully staffed, the dealership is anticipated to provide the community with 95 jobs. Fifty-seven jobs were preserved from the recent closure of the Cerritos Sat- urn dealership, and an additional 28 jobs were created to accommodate the larger facility. Within two years, 10 additional jobs will be added. Cerritos Towne Center upgrades under way The Cerritos Towne Center will soon be upgraded with new lighting, landscaping, signage and seating areas. An enhanced entry portal will include climbing vines around columns and under the archway. Bowl light sconces will be af- fixed to the front of the columns. The existing paseo, which includes two rows of palm trees lining a concrete walkway, will be improved by the addition of green- screen structures that will encase the palm trees and support climbing vines and bowl light sconces. Portions of the existing paseo concrete pavement will be replaced with stamped concrete with a flagstone finish. The outdoor seating areas will be up- graded with two permanent shade canopy structures (one for each area). The canopies will include decorative metal panels and will support suspended fans for additional cooling as well as gas heaters to replace the pole-mounted heaters currently installed. The perimeters of the new seating areas will be enhanced with new illuminated garden lanterns at the entrances and new paving to match the paseo flagstone finish. New grade-level planter areas with horse- tail bamboo will create a decorative hedge around the seating areas. The existing planters throughout the fountain plaza and store frontage areas will also be enlarged. A new fireplace will be installed adjacent to the outdoor patio seating area of Arté Café. The three-sided fireplace will allow access from the private patio and the pub- lic plaza area, and will feature protective screening and a decorative stacked rock veneer. The existing fencing around the café will be reconfigured to complement the new fireplace. On the public plaza side of the fireplace, a new seating area will include durable outdoor furniture, pot- ted plants and specialty paving. A similar seating area will be located at the northerly end of the plaza near the movie theater. Graphic signage including a combination of lifestyle images, abstract art and im- ages from current movies will be installed throughout the central plaza (subject to City approval). Existing tenant identifica- tion signs and theater information signage will also be upgraded. The existing foun- tain will be restored and upgraded with new jets and nozzles to achieve greater motion and interest. The upgrades are expected to be com- pleted within four months. An 8,822-square-foot Buffalo Wild Wings is expected to open at Best Plaza in January 2011.
