*Fredrick Douglass*

• Douglass published his autobiography, Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglass an American Slave.

• He conferred with Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War and retrieved northern blacks for the union Army.

*Harriet Tubman*

• Harriet Tubman was a runaway slave from Maryland who became known as the Moses of her people.

• She created the Underground Railroad to free slaves.

*Carter G. Woodson*

• Known as the father of black history Woodson was the son of former slaves, and understood how important gaining a proper education.

• Dr. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and history.

*Oprah Winfrey*

• Oprah Winfrey has used her talk show to publicize The Angel Network.

• The Angel Network is the first charity focused on getting people involved.
