Security Breaches There are many things that can affect a computer’s general performance such as taking out the plug while it is still working however there are many things much more complicated to do with computer security. This could involve such things like offline viruses e.g. something that could penetrate and shut down your computer; losing all your personal documents. It also ranges to online ways of security breaches, such as phishing. For example, in a big block of offices or an internet cafe where people will set up fake bank accounts and will ask for your personal details. They will then leave with your personal details which could result in them making a false identity for passports, driving licenses and other important documents as well as withdrawing money from your account.

Information SecurityWidespread uses of personal information can be associated with information security because when displaying a wide range of personal information on the internet and in computer documents or files, someone , if the computer is not well protected, can access these files by hacking into your computer system. This will allow them to see every thing you can.

Appropriate PrecautionsThere are many security precautions that you can take to protect your computer. Things such as firewall and anti virus software which stop viruses and unauthorized networks from coming through. There are also blocks on the internets like pop-ups which shows if there is something unreliable or could damage part of your computer if you need to download a file of player e.g. Adobe flash player.

Information SecurityWhen dealing with information security, you

can back it up in many ways. When on the internet you could use inprivate browsing, so no one can see what you are doing. Also, when on social networking sites, you can only let people you know see your profile information. Additionally, when making your documents secure, you should always back it up and use packages such as Identity Theft Protection, so they can’t see any personal documents.

Staff IT ProceduresAs you might well know that your staff use

IT to set up the comics, they should also be trained to deal with situations and when it says stuff about the computer/laptop being at risk, they should be able to deal with it. My suggestion is that your staff are given a straight through one-week training course so they are able to deal with a situation e.g. From pop-ups to a computer shut down.

Why is it important to back up data?It is important to back up data because:• If there was a computer shut down you

would have a back-up to restore on a computer.

• For general safety and to keep important personal documents.

• To have something to register onto other computers if needed.
