proper links into Care systems etc

• 6,850 linear meters of paper storage within NCC main buildings.

• 80% of paper held by staff is a duplicate

• Flexible workers only occupy a desk around 48% of the time - this is 28% for

Field workers

NGW: What are the key principles?• Next Generation Working applies to all of our workforce

• Work takes place at the most effective locations and at the most

effective times to meet business needs

• Managing performance focuses on outcomes

rather than presence at a location

• Staff feel more empowered, trusted and have

greater ownership of their work

• Work process are simplified – and are “Digital First”

By the public sector, for the public sector

NGW: What are the key principles?• Space in offices is allocated to activities –

not to individuals or on the basis of seniority • A more flexible mix of work options

• Flexibility will be the norm in how we deliver services• Everyone is in principle considered suitable to work in a

flexible way• Employees may have more choice about

where and when they work, always subjectto service requirements

Laptops and tablets

By the public sector, for the public sector

What is a Laptop best for?Laptops are powerful devices that can run applications loaded onto them locally, as well as by accessing the main network

Laptops are portable, allowing staff to work away from their desks

Laptops can connect to the network whilst on site via a cable or WI-FI, as well as connecting remotely, via WI-FI, broadband, 3 or 4G

Laptops are generally bigger than tablets, giving larger screens and keyboards to work from

Laptops may better suit staff who have to work in various locations but ones that are generally office type environments

By the public sector, for the public sector

What is a tablet best for? Tablets, like Laptops, are powerful and can run MS Office locally on the machine creating reports and other documents offline

Tablets - have convenient touch screen capability

Tablets - have apps for Corporate E-Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Note Taking that can be accessed by one touch without logging into the Citrix desktop

Tablets - can use a ‘Stylus’ to handwrite which can be converted to typed text, reducing the need to use paper forms or notebooks and can use ‘Voice’ commands for some features and even allow the device to type what is spoken

Tablets may best suit staff who undertake varied field working
