It’s the holidays! Today we said goodbye to Miss Hamilton, Mrs Hill, Mr Dearden, Miss McKevitt and Mrs Buggins. We are looking forward to hearing good news when Mrs Buggins’ baby arrives! Miss Hamilton is going to live in Germany, Mrs Hill will be looking after her grandchildren, Miss McKevitt is moving to a school in Kirkby and Mr Dearden has completed his Sports Apprenticeship. We will miss them all however and thank them for the contribution they have made to the children and the school. Could I remind you that when you are buying uniform the school uniform jumpers and cardigans are from available from Boydells only and are not plain grey jumpers/cardigans. Cloakroom space is limited and pupils need only a book bag - not rucksacks - which are difficult for us to store. We will be having building work undertaken over the holidays in the Year 3 & 4 classrooms. We will keep you informed of any changes on the 5 th September. Finally can I wish you all a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing all the children again on 6 th September. Thank for your continued support of the school and for all your many kind gifts to the staff – they are much appreciated. Year 6 Leavers

Goodbye & Good Luck!

Class of 2017

Wow!!! What a wonderful year we have shared together in Foundation Stage. Our teachers and assistants are all

delighted and so proud to see just how much we have grown in so many ways since we joined St Basil’s in September. Last

week we were excited to visit our new classrooms and teachers and have talked a lot about the things which we can look

forward to.

Our learning challenges in class have been all about pirates and this has been great fun! We have also been making

something special for our friends in Year 6 who have been such good prayer partners to us all year. On Friday we will

share a picnic with them before they leave St Basil’s, ready to join High School in September. A huge thank you to year 6 –

we will miss you!

A big thank you to all of you parents too – it has been lovely to see you coming to so many events at school over the

months, and for all of your help and support at home. Have a super summer everybody!

We have been enjoying our last week in year 1, showing off what we can do! We have completed a book review on

Goldilocks and Just the One Bear’, we loved this story, especially the twist at the end! We also enjoyed

taking part in and watching the KS1 Talent Show. We all thought the acts were very good and we loved

judging how good they were!

In English we have been looking at a book called ‘Troll Swap’. We have been comparing the two characters. We have also

learnt how to write speech using inverted commas. In maths we have been practising our calculation skills for addition,

subtraction, multiplication and division.

We celebrated our time in the infants in a very special end of year collective worship as a year group. The theme was

treasures! We remembered special memories, shared a special gospel reading about creation

and looked at a book called ‘The First Slodge’ which reminded us to share God’s special world.

In year 3 we have enjoyed taking part in an Art project designing sketches based on musical instruments. We have had a

chance to draw and paint to produce and Art display for our year 3 & 4 area next year. At the beginning of the week we

also had an opportunity to try out various French foods at St Basil’s French breakfast!

We have had a fun-filled last week in year 3!

In year 4 we have enjoyed a lot of things, like the Music Extravaganza! We sang lots of songs and shared our musical

talents. Year 3 did the recorder, year 4 the guitar and year 5 did the brass and woodwind. We have also been writing out

chocolate bar letters in English – we had to choose our favourite chocolate bar and write a letter to Ducan, which is our

chocolate bar owner. In maths we have been investigator, we have been solving different problems. There was a different

problem on each table and we had to solve them all! We are very happy that we won our reading competition and look

forward to spending our voucher!

On Monday 17th July, St Basil’s had a French breakfast and everybody enjoyed it! Years 5 were lucky enough to serve the

breakfast to the younger children. To celebrate the French theme, year 5 wore red, white and blue to represent the

French flag. Some of us even had moustaches and berets to make us look traditionally French. We decorated the KS1 hall

with bunting, flags and menus. We also had a powerpoint with images of France and French music playing in the

background. The kitchen staff prepared our lovely French breakfast – we had chocolate milk, orange juice, pain au

chocolat, croissants and baguettes – it was delicious!

At the end there was enough for year 5 to help themselves to a lovely French breakfast!

Our time throughout St Basil’s has been amazing! We will really miss all the staff that has helped us during our journey

through primary school. We are so sad to let all of this go but our treasured memories will stay in our hearts forever.

On Wednesday 5th July some of the juniors went to the stadium and took part in an athletics event and relay. Year 3 & 4’s

girls’ team for the relay came in 1st place! The second I crossed the finish line my heart was beating so fast! I had a lot of

fun and I am proud of myself!
