Place Value
Multiplication Recipe1. Multiply the numbers just as if they were
whole numbers. Line up the numbers on the right Starting on the right, multiply each digit in
the top number by each digit in the bottom number, just as with whole numbers.
Add the products.
2. Put the decimal point in the answer - it will have as many decimal places as the two original numbers combined.
Division
Division Recipe (by a whole number) 1. Write in long division form2. Line up your decimal point in quotient with
dividend Dot on “top of the house” should match the
dot “inside of the house”
3. Divide as normal. Keep dividing until the answer terminates or repeats.

Move the divisor’s decimal place to the right until it becomes a whole number

3. Put decimal point on “top of the house” directly above decimal point in the dividend.
