This instruction augments guidance in Air Force (AF) Instruction 91-203, Air Force
Consolidated Occupational Safety Instruction, and provides guidance on appropriate
consumption of food and drinks while in Ogden Air Logistics Complex (OO-ALC) industrial
areas. It is applicable to all individuals who work in and transverse through industrial areas.
Ensure all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this instruction are maintained in
accordance with (IAW) Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 33-363, Management of Records, and
disposed of IAW the Air Force Records Information Management System Records Disposition
Schedule. Refer recommended changes and questions about this publication to the Office of
Primary Responsibility (OPR) using the AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of
Publication. Route AF Forms 847 from the field through the chain of command of all groups
affected by proposed changes.
1. General Information: Within industrial areas, the consumption of food and beverages is
approved in designated break areas, enclosed administrative areas, and enclosed shop floor
modular office areas/buildings. Personnel transporting food through any facility to one of the
authorized areas mentioned above shall ensure that food remains sealed or covered until reaching
their destination. Personnel shall not temporarily store, keep or maintain containers of food in
industrial areas.
2. Consumption of food in industrial areas:
2.1. The consumption of food in OO-ALC industrial areas is prohibited.

2.2. Consumption of food is only approved in designated break areas, enclosed
administrative areas, and enclosed shop floor modular office areas/buildings.
3. Consumption of drinks in industrial areas:
3.1. The consumption of drinks in OO-ALC industrial areas should only be considered in
areas assessed by the organizations supporting Bioenvironmental Engineering authority.
Please contact your local Bioenvironmental Engineering authority to request an Industrial
Hygiene Assessment be accomplished or to obtain a copy the industrial area’s most recent
Industrial Hygiene Assessment.
3.1.1. Any questions pertaining to the Industrial Hygiene Assessment will be directed to
the host installation’s Bioenvironmental Engineering authority.
3.2. Consumption of drinks in industrial areas will be prohibited in the following industrial
areas:
3.2.1. Industrial areas which expose personnel to toxic materials or substances above
established Permissible Exposure Limits or Occupational and Environmental Exposure
Limits and/or use chemicals identified on the Material Safety Data Sheet as capable of
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm through ingestion.
3.2.2. Established Regulated Areas.
3.2.3. Blast Booths.
3.2.4. Paint Booths.
3.2.5. Confined Spaces.
3.2.6. Industrial areas where use of a respirator is required.
3.2.7. Industrial areas that have not established a housekeeping plan IAW Air Force
Instruction (AFI) 21-102 Air Force Material Command Supplement, Depot Maintenance
Management.
3.3. OO-ALC industrial areas not described in paragraphs 3.2.1. through 3.2.7. may allow
consumption of drinks.
3.4. Drink container restrictions:
3.4.1. The container must not become a safety or foreign object damage hazard.
3.4.2. The container must not interfere with the task or operation.
3.4.3. The container and/or drinking orifice must be sealable.
3.4.4. The container and/or drinking orifice is only opened immediately prior to and
closed immediately after consumption.
4. Signage:
4.1. For industrial areas where consumption of both food and drink is disallowed, the work
area supervisor will post OO-ALC Visual Aid (VA) 91-214, Food and Drinks Not Allowed,
(Attachment 3) signs in readily visible locations throughout the work area.

4.2. For industrial areas where consumption of drinks are allowed per paragraph 3 of this
instruction, the work area supervisor will post OO-ALCVA91-213, Drinks Allowed,
(Attachment 2) signs in readily visible locations throughout the work area.
