Pierre and Fort Pierreresidents should findthemselves a bit moreaware of the trash theydrop near the MissouriRiver.That,atleast,isthehope
ofthegroupof concernedcitizens who worked tofinance and place morethan 60 new signs alongthe river bank in PierreandFortPierre. Thesignsareagentlereminderthatanygarbagedroppednearthe Missouri will eventu -ally find its way into thewater, said Paul Lepisto,who works for the IzaakWalton League, a conser -vation organization, and
led the effort to place thesigns."The signs, we think,
are a nice, subtle reminder,"hesaid.The project was fund -
ed by the South DakotaCommunity Foundationthrough a CommunityInnovation Grant andincludes a second set ofsixty signs being placedalong the Missouri Riverin Yankton. The IzaakWalton League part-nered with the cities ofFort Pierre, Pierre andYankton to get the signsputinplace.The basic message of
the signs, Lepisto said, isto pick litter up today sothat it doesn't wind up intherivertomorrow.
