What is a quinceañera?
A Quinceañera is a celebration for a fifteen year old girl. Quinceañeras are usually celebrated for Spanish families . It is usually a dinner and dance festival, marking her passage into adulthood. It can also involve a Mass at which she receives a ring from her parents, as a symbol of commitment to church and family.
Quinceañera dressThe Quinceañera dress signifies the girl
becoming a woman. Quinceañera dresses are very known for women of Latin America, who have parties such as these.
The ceremony The Quinceañera tradition dates back more
than 600 years when the Aztec and Maya cultures celebrated the time when a young girl became eligible to marry, have children, and handle the responsibilities of the women in her community.
The First dance
The first danceWhen a girl has her Quinceanera, a special
event that is planned is called a First Dance. A First Dance is when the girl has a dance with family members, and is escorted by a male family member or a friend.
What we think about Spanish traditionMalik: I think that the Spanish tradition is a
great cultural thing that families do and pass on.
Nayquan: I think Spanish tradition is great because of the food they eat and how they came up with the quinceanera on the fifteenth, and the waltz dance.
