Grade 1: The Kingdom of Cambodia

Lesson: Make my students more aware

of the country of Cambodia. The students should gain knowledge in the culture and location of Cambodia.

Materials Needed

• Globe• Spoons• Forks• Rice• Artifacts from Cambodia• Flag of Kingdom of Cambodia• Books about Cambodia

Activities for lesson on Cambodia

• Activity 1– Have the students learn how to say

1-10 in the Khmer language.

• Activity 2– Teach student the proper way to

eat in Cambodia. They must put the spoon in the right hand and the fork in the left hand.

Activities Con’t

• Activity 3– Have the students make a weaving.

Fabric making is the largest business in Cambodia.

• Activity 4– Have students find Cambodia on the

globe. Then the students must recreate the Cambodian flag.

• Activity 5– Compare/Contrast the United States and

Cambodia

• The main source of transportation in Cambodia is a “moto”.

• Many people will walk to their destination.

• It is rare to see a car.

• In America we would call a “moto” a moped.

USA Transportation

Cambodians eat with their spoon in their right hand

and their fork in their left hand. They use the fork as a shovel to put food on the

spoon. They only put the spoon in their

mouth.

• Rice is served with every meal in Cambodia.

• Some Cambodians use chop sticks instead of spoon and fork.
