Freedom of Religion

Freedom of Religion:

Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability. In Canada, we have the right to exercise religious freedom, not what are beliefs are.

Time line 1900-1950:

In Ontario on 1932 the a insurance

company gave a man a higher tax rate because of

color and religion.

In 1937 a community hall didn’t allow to rent out for a group of people because he

thought that they were going to be

praying and worshiping god.

In 1933 government of Canada started

strengthening its stand against

discrimination.

In 1948 everyone had the right to

freedom of thought, conscience and

religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion

or belief, and freedom,

In 1941 Shortly after 2 million Christians had been butchered

and their churches were

burnt to the ground because of believing in a god.

Religion at SchoolPublic schools can`t teach religion but they can

teach about Religion in SchoolsA teacher can excuse a student from a lesson that

goes against their religion.• Students are allowed to pray if it doesn`t disrupt

the class when they are not participating in school activities or being taught.

Religion at workPeople are allowed to wear whatever they want

that has to do with their religion. For example the man who was asked to work in the RCMP and was Sikh and had to wear a turban, but they had a policy that he had to wear a RCMP hat. He sued the RCMP and then was allowed to wear his turban at work.

You are allowed to take Holy days off.

In Quebec they proposed a law that would make women wearing a veil covering their face not able to give or receive government services. For example they would not be able to go to a doctor or go to university without showing their face. This would go against freedom of religion.
