About Einstein

He was born in Germany on March 14th, 1879,he died on April 18th 1955. He trained to be a teacher in the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School and he obtained his diploma in 1901. Einstein was a self-sufficient and thoughtful boy he was a slow talker to consider what he would say next. His parents were Jewish and their names were Hermann and Pauline Einstein.

About Einstein Continued…

When he was born his mother worried that his head was too large. When Einstein was four his dad showed him a pocket compass and he was amazed that no matter which way he turned it, it faced North. He began school at six and went to a Catholic elementary school in Munich. He did well in school but kept his distance from his friends. Einstein preferred to build houses with cards and play with his sister.

Einstein’s Discoveries

Einstein was the most famous scientist of the 20th century and he revolutionized scientific thought.

In 1905 he published four scientific papers on scientific theories:

• The photoelectric effect• The Brownian motion• Special relativity• The equivalence of matter and energy

E=mc2E=mc2 is Einstein’s most famous equation which states that mass and energy

are the same thing. The total Energy (E) of some Matter (M) is equal to its speed (C), squared (2). For example: if you take a ball and drop it from a window it will make a depression in the ground where it lands. If you double the height (and so the ball’s speed) the hole will be four times deeper. You have doubled the height and speed of the ball so you get 4 times as much energy to make the depression in the ground.

• E = energy (measured in joules)• m = mass (measured in kilograms)• c = the speed of light (186,000 miles per second, or 3 x 108 ms-1)• So from 1kg of matter, any matter, we get 9 x 1016 joules of energy.

Fun Facts• Einstein loved to sail in college, he would often take a boat up to

the lake and relax.• When Einstein died they conducted an autopsy and removed his

brain. The scientist who was supposed to keep it for scientific study was fired and instead kept the brain at his house. It later took a bizarre cross-country tour in the trunk of a car and remains an object of morbid fascination.

• Einstein’s definition of insanity was: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

• A few days after the first President of Israel died on November 9, 1952, Einstein was asked if he would accept the position of being the second president, he said no as he was already 73 years old at the time.

• After Einstein divorced his first wife, in 1919, he married his cousin.• Two of Einstein's least favorite things: Haircuts and socks.
