Definition : A management system in which the objectives of an organization are agreed upon
so that management and employees understand a common way forward.
MBO was introduced by Peter Drucker in the 1950sAn Austrian-born American management consultant
Setting goals: supervisors and subordinates collectively set the goals for the organization.
Developing action plan: Who is responsible for what action?
Reviewing progress: Is a periodic review to ensure that action plans are working.
Appraising overall performance: weather goals are achieved or not. If goals are achieved, then giving rewards to employees for their good performance.Evaluation of the whole process is done at the year end.
For MBO to be successful, three things have to happen
1. Top Management Must Be Committed2. It must be applied organization wide3. Objectives must cascade
