STRAW EXERCISE 1A: When I breathe it helps me to stay alive. I feel very

relaxed. 1B: As I breathed through the large straw and pinched my

nose it wasn’t as difficult to breathe. 1C: As I breathed through the coffee stirring straw I felt my

heart pounding faster and faster trying to pump the extra oxygen and I had to breathe faster.

1D: I lasted for 18 seconds after I jumped up and down when I lasted the full 30 seconds when we first started the straw exercises.

1E: I do think there is a difference between urban and suburban areas because of the factories and population of people and pollution from the factories. I think this because when the air is polluted there are bad chemicals and we would breath that in and that would go into our lungs. Therefore we will have an increase of asthma attacks for people with asthma in an urban district.

ASTHMA Asthma is a chronic disease

characterized by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, which vary in severity and frequency from person to person. Your bronchial tubes will swell up and that causes your airways to narrow and will cause you to run out of breathe easily and so you could possibly die.

PREVENTION, DEAL/COPE There are 2 medications for asthma. One type is a long-term

control medication. This type of medication you have to take everyday to control asthma symptoms and to prevent the occurrence of an asthma attack.

Another type of medication is short-term medication or quick-relief medication is taken to relieve the sudden onset of asthma symptoms.

You can also try avoiding things that might trigger or cause an asthma attack.

The American Lung Association recommends  tight building shells, energy recovery ventilation systems and dehumidifiers.

WHY DO MORE PEOPLE HAVE ASTHMA NOW THEN 20 YEARS AGO?

More people today have asthma because of the air that we breathe. The pollen, dust, and pollution in the air gets into our lungs and that’s when we start to get the symptoms of asthma. As the years go by we get more into technology and so we build more and more factories so we can produce them. Factories give out harmful chemicals through the roof. Rates increased 75% between 1980 and 1994.
