oyal mint was where coins were made, legally. Usually, before a law was passed, nobles use to mint their own coins. Minting coins is basically making your own coins with engravings. Though, King Louis XI made it illegal for one to use coins made anywhere else but the royal mint. He set up a royal court in which anyone could bring disputes to the law.

ugustus, Philip Augustus or Philip II, ruled from 1179 to 1223. He made Paris the center of government. Philip also increased the size of the kingdom by marriages and fighting for his French lands held by the English and winning. He appointed royal agents to keep watch on the nobles during the Crusades.

ew king was Louis VI in 1108 known as “Louis the Fat”. He increased the power of the monarchy. He got rid of disloyal nobles and put younger people in their place. He granted charters to many towns and winning ,the loyalty of his townspeople.

apet a French noble was the new king of France. As Capet ruled only smalls area between Seine and Loire rivers. He died in Capet 996. He was the first of the Capetian kings who ruled France for 300 years.

states-General was formed by Philip IV. An assembly of nobles, clergy, and townspeople. This was the beginning of a national government in France. When Philip IV died in 1314, France was united under one ruler.

In 900A.D. – 1500A.D. monarchies rose. Though today we no longer have monarchies, we now have a democracy. A democracy is a government for the people by the people. Government has improved but problems still arise. On May 6th 2013, a day that marks the end of Francois Hollande’s first year as president of France, thousands of French protested against him. They accused Hollande of contributing to Europe’s economic crisis by focusing on the interest of shareholders, of big businesses and of European austerity policies, to the detriment. Both section 1 about the early French, and the current event on the modern day French are about the development of government, from monarchies to democracy. The theme of this current event is peace and security.
