Modem is short for modulator-demodulator

Device that is connected to a computer Transmit data through telephone or

cabal lines Modulates signals of analog types for

coding Demodulates the signals to decode the

information

Modulator – transmits signals out a phone line in analog form

Demodulator – receives signals from a phone line turning them back to digital forms

ISP – Internet Service Provider Mpbs – Mega bits per second Bpbs – Bits per second ADSL – Asymmetric digital subscriber line
