Indigenous
Perspectives Program, facilitated
by Destination Dreaming
22nd June - 28th June 2015
+
2015 brings an exciting opportunity for students to be part of the Regional Project engaging with the Quandamooka people. The program is located on North Stradbroke Island, off the coast of Brisbane in Queensland. Students will explore the remote environment, culture, history and language of the Indigenous community on North Stradbroke Island. This is an amazing opportunity to gain an understanding of an Aboriginal culture and
history to gain new appreciation of the challenges faced by the first people of this land. A key part of this program will be learning through active citizenship and building friendships across cultures. You’ll be stepping outside your comfort zone, learning to appreciate and become aware of social injustice and the ways we can respond as active global citizens. This program is open to a maximum of 16 students only for 2015.
Seeking Leaders for the 2015 Indigenous Perspectives Program ‘This trip has been the
highlight of my life. Over the past week I have
learned so much about Aboriginal culture and the lives of the Quandamooka
people. I have met heaps of new people who have
become some of my best friends. I would recommend this project to everyone and
it is something I’ll never forget.’

The heart of this program is the
formation of a new partnership with
the Quandamooka People of North
Stradbroke Island.
North Stradbroke Island was once the
capital of Queensland and is home to
some of the richest history in modern
and ancient Australia. Round Square
schools have an amazing opportunity to
lead this partnership and provide new
opportunities to learn firsthand from
traditional owners of the Island. Learn
about the people’s connection to the
land, bush tucker, stories from the
Dreaming (the creation) and the
challenges modern Aboriginal people face
living in today’s society.
The Salt Water Murris (Quandamooka
people) want to share their stories with
you.

Be Part of an Inspiring Partnership: Regional Program, North Stradbroke Island.
‘I learned so many amazing things on the
Destination Dreaming program. These included
what really happened after the Stolen Generation
and how we can make a change in our community. I
also learned about Aboriginal art and tools and a
highlight was talking with Aunty Joan and weaving
with Sonja.
I recommend Destination Dreaming because you
learn so much that you don’t at school and have fun
doing it at the same time. The leaders are amazing
and you can really form a strong bond with the
community.'
