Who settled in New Jersey
The first settlements in New Jersey were made by the Dutch along the western bank of the Hudson, with one on the Delaware at Fort Nassau, but these settlements were not important, and the history of the colony properly begins with the occupation of the territory by the English.
WHY THEY SETTLED THERE-Rich Farmland-Cash Crops for England

WHY DID NO MAJOR PORT DEVELOP IN NEW JERSEY
No major port developed because they did not make the profits they expected and it became a royal colony and because they were a place of ethnic and religious diversity.
