A solar eclipse is when the Earth moves into the Moons shadow. (Definition)

Total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely obscures the sun allowing the fainter solar corona to be visible.

There are between 2 and 5 solar eclipses every year.

Lunar Eclipse

A lunar eclipse is when the Moon moves into the Earth’s Shadow.(Definition)

Some lunar eclipse can last up to 3 hour and 45 minutes.

A full lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth passes directly in front of a full moon.

TidesA tide is a regular rise and fall of the ocean’s surface.(Definition)

The gravitational force of the moon is one ten-millionth that of earth, but when you combine other forces such as the earth's centrifugal force created by its spin, you get tides.

Spring tides happen when the sun and moon are on the same side of the earth (New Moon) or when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth (Full Moon).

Waning Moon

A waning Moon is a Moon grows smaller in appearance.(Definition)

A waning crescent moon is sometimes called an old moon. It’s seen in the east before dawn.

As the moon orbits Earth, it changes phase in an orderly way.

Waxing MoonA Waxing Moon is a Moon growing larger in appearance.(Definition)

A waxing gibbous moon appears high in the east at sunset. It’s more than half-lighted, but less than full.

Any moon that appears more than half lighted but less than full is called a gibbous moon. The word gibbous comes from a root word that means hump-backed. You can see the hump-backed shape of the waxing gibbous moon.
