I don’t know if anyone noticed or not but something is different from last school year and this year.

It has to do with appearance and no I’m not talking about the abolishment of the hair policy although that is a blessing from the City of New York.

I’m talking about Seniors and specifically their cadigans. If you didn’t know a cardigan as shown to the right, is a sweater that can be opened in the front center almost like a full zip up sweater but with buttons instead of a zipper.

An inside tip from current seniors say that the custom design they wanted would have taken too long to produce which meant that they would not get them in time for the winter months (when they are mostly used). In the end, for the first time in many, many years the senior class did not have a cardigan.

The seniors of the 2017-2018 school year had gotten theirs and used it for a good part of the school year.

Let's hope the class of 2020 does!

MOUNT DANCE: A first in decadesBy Luke Anderson

Until last December, Mount Saint Michael Academy had not had a dance for yearsssssss. The Parents Association decided to put an end to that and bring back school dances. The Mount Dance was held on December 15th.

DJ Ant Black played really good music that kept the party goers on the dance floor. Girls from some of our local high schools like Saint Barnabas, Saint Catherines, Mount Saint Ursula and Preston were invited. The cafeteria was open for beverages and snacks.

About 300 students (boys and girls) in total attended the dance. Everyone had a great time catching up with their friends, spending time with their dates and of course dancing.

If you didn’t make it, you definitely missed out! Hopefully we will have another someday. Sorry no photos.

SPECIAL REPORTJanuary/February 2019 Vol. I Issue 3

Mount St. Michael’s “Annual Student Dinner For Incoming Freshmen” is a chance for parents and future students to get to know more about the school.

The dinner begins with students, teachers, incoming freshman and their families being seated at a table.

At my table, here were two families along with Mr. Asaro. Our job was to provide information and answer any questions they might have.

Of course the students were more involved with their technology like iPhones and airpods than anything. So the parents asked most of the questions.

Each table had a “Mount Facts” trivia hunt for the students to work together and complete for a chance to win a prize.

Mr. Corritori and Brother Steve gave introductions and welcomed everyone.

It was the usual Spaghetti dinner with salad but I’m not complaining as it tasted good.

After dinner, the panel (members from the National Honors Society) talked about their experiences as a Mount student. They bestowed some knowledge onto the Class of 2023 and shared info about their college plans.

Later during the raffle segment someone from my table won a Nike sweatshirt which seemed to be the common prize of the night.

I would say if was good event and look forward to welcoming the new students

OPINIONJanuary/February 2019 Vol. I Issue 3

At Mount, students are not allowed to use cellphones at lunch. The school policy is: no cellphone use during lunch. As a result, students talk to one another and interact face-to-face. For shy students, cellphones may be used to avoid socializing and the policy helps with that.

NOTE: The school is not completely cell phone-free.

The devices are sometimes used in classrooms to supplement educational activities for example while playing an educational game like Kahoot.

Should Students be allowed to use cellphones during lunch?

Due to voter fraud, the results of the poll could NOT be

summarized.
