- A conversion factor is a multiplier equal to 1.

- Choose a conversion factor that will make the units cancel, leaving the answer in the correct units.

Multiply: 15 X 60 X 60 = 54,000 seconds

Present Absent

If the decimal point is present, start from the left.

Then start from the first non-zero digit and count all of the numbers.

Example: 0.00150 = 3 significant figures

If the decimal point is absent, start from the right.

Example: 150 = 2 significant figures

- Addition and Subtraction: 1. Perform the operation Example: 4.760 + 15.0 – 7 = 12.760 2. Round the result to the least-precise

value. Example: 4.760 + 15.0 – 7 = 12.760

7 is the least-precise value. 3. 5-9 = round up; 0-4 = round down

So 4.760 + 15.0 – 7 = 13

- Multiplication and Division:1.Perform the operation Example: 15.0 x 4.044 / 0.031 = 1956.77194 2. Round to the same number of significant

figures as the least-precise measurement. Example: 15.0 x 4.044 / 0.031 = 1956.77194

0.031 is the least-precise measurement and has 2 significant figures.

So 15.0 x 4.044 / 0.031 = 1900

Let’s say that I’m trying to grow a flower,

But I really want it to grow red, which isn’t a natural color for this

type of flowerI need to find a way to make grow

differently….To figure out how to do this I’ll use

the Scientific Method!!

The first step I would take is to identify the problem:

My problem is that I need

this flower to grow red

The second step would be to identify the

hypothesis:I predict that if I mix red paint into the soil

it will grow red

The next step I would take would

be to test my hypothesis:I will plant 4 flowers

3 of them will have red paint mixed into

the soil and 1 of them will be the

control group (have no paint mixed in)

After reviewing the results it seems that all 4 flowers grew in white…My hypothesis

was wrong…I guess it’s back to the drawing

board

The next step is to form a conclusion,

So now after revising my hypothesis I’m now predicting that I’ll be

able to grow the flowers red if I let

them grow a bit then let them sit in a vase

of water with food coloring for a few

hours

Now I’ll execute another

experiment only this time I’ll be testing my new

hypothesis

As I was reviewing the

data…I found success!!!!

My hypothesis was correct!!

In conclusion,To dye a flower you have to first grow it then let in sit in a vase with a mixture of water and food coloring

The Scientific Method details a law which is testable and

reproducibleAs opposed to

detailing a theory which is not

testable and is a collection of observations

The Independent Variable is the

Variable that you controlThe Dependent

Variable is the Variable that you

measureI predict that if I add food

coloring to the vase of water the flower will change color

Independent Variable goes on x axis

To find the slope of a line,

Take the rise

divided by the run

Pick two points on the line of best fit then

Linear Graph…

Slope y=mx

Exponential y=mx²

Inverted y=ᴹ/ᵪ
