* He was treated for polio, although some doctors today think he may have had a different illness.

• Elected Governor of New York

• He wrote conservation bills to help protect the environment.

1932

• Elected 32nd President of the United States of America.

• Helped the poor and the homeless to make our country a better place with a plan called The New Deal.

1941• Asked Congress to

declare war on Germany and Japan

• They had the war because the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.
