Nuclear Power produced by nuclear reactions is essentially a conversion of matter into energy, which is generated by an atom’s nucleus through fusion or fission

What is fusion and fission? Fission is essentially the splitting of an atom’s nucleus, creating high temperatures due to the conversion procedure. Fusion, on the other hand, is the combining of nucleuses between atoms, which also converts matter to energy but we have not successfully harvested any usable energy.

How was Nuclear Power Discovered?

There is not a scientist that discovered Nuclear Power by him or herself.

Nuclear Power is discovered by discoveries by scientists like John Cockcroft, Ernest Walton, James Chadwick, Fritz Strassmann, and more.

All of the scientists discoveries led to other discoveries and all of the scientists are credited with discovering Nuclear Power.

How is Nuclear Power Produced?

There are many different ways to produce Nuclear Power such as fusion and fission (slide before) and a Nuclear Reactor.

A Nuclear Reactor is located in a Power Plant and it transform Uranium, one of the elements used to produce Nuclear Power, into Nuclear Power.

What is Used to Produce Nuclear Power?

Nuclear Power comes from 1 element, Uranium.

Uranium is a element found on the periodic table. It is nonrenewable and it is found all over the world as a metal in rocks.

Uranium is mined all over the world and it can be turned into Nuclear Power by Nuclear Fission and other ways to produce Nuclear Power for the World.

How is Nuclear Power Useful in the World?

Nuclear Power is very important in all aspects of life, such as it helps the world with it’s energy needs, and many more.

Nuclear Power produces 15% of the world’s electricity supply. It is also 6.3% of the world’s energy supply.

Nuclear Power is very useful due to its efficiency. Nuclear is is one of the most safe energies to use when it comes to it’s efficiency.

From Light Bulbs to Television, all of these items are powered by Nuclear Power. Nuclear Power can be used for weapons such as Nuclear Missiles.

The Pros Of Nuclear Power Nuclear Power is very useful and has a lot of pros. An

example is how it opened to other branches of science which lead and will lead more discoveries.

Nuclear Power has also contributed its findings to the relatively new field of spectroscopy, which would enable us to a more comfortable future with groundbreaking inventions. It also opened up new areas of spectroscopy, thermodynamics, and more.

Nuclear Power produces 15% of the world’s energy supply and the numbers are still increasing. Nuclear Power is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Due to its efficiency and liability, Nuclear Power is becoming more popular in the world. World Powers such as the United States, Japan, France, and more.

The Cons Of Nuclear Power

Although Nuclear Power is very useful and can do a lot of good things to the world, but there are still some problems when using Nuclear Power.

When uranium (element used to produce Nuclear Power) undergoes fission, barium isotopes are formed, giving off radiation that could potentially harm animals or humans.

Nuclear fission is also considered a threat to humans because of its massive energy output that could possible lead to an explosion. . Examples are the atomic bombs that were used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II that is an uncontained nuclear fission reaction.

Nuclear Power can also harm the World’s environment with it’s toxic waste and it’s pollution from the Nuclear Power Plants.

Incidents Of Nuclear Power Plant Failures

Chernobyl, Russia has been credited as the most significant failure in the history of Nuclear Power Plants. The explosion has destroyed most of the area surrounding it and had affected all of Europe by significantly raising gamma radiation.

Three Mile Island located in Pennsylvania was also a sight of Nuclear meltdown but was not as sever as Chernobyl.

Both failures were caused by malfunctioning equipment leading to excessive heating of the uranium rods which ultimately penetrated the barriers of the Nuclear Power Plants.

The Cost of Nuclear Power

According to a study that was done in 2009, $18 billion is spent on Nuclear Power. Compared to the $83 billion spent on Fossil Fuels, the money spent on Nuclear Power is not so expensive.

For every kilogram of Uranium to be converted into Nuclear Energy, it costs the Government $2,555 dollars.

With the popularity of Nuclear Power growing, the price will eventually rise. Currently 56 countries use Nuclear Power.

Nuclear Power Plants In New Jersey

There are currently only 3 Nuclear Power Plants in New Jersey. One in Tom’s River, New Jersey, one in Salem, New Jersey, and one in Oyster Creek, New Jersey.

The one built in Tom’s River was built in 1969, Salem’s Nuclear Power Plant was built in 1977 in Salem, New Jersey, and Oyster Creek’s Power Plant was built in 1990’s.
