BWMS Retrofit Installation and Operation
Full Project ExecutionEstimates indicate as many as 10,000 vessels per year are to be retrofit from 2021 – 2024– Only systems certified in accordance with the modified IMO Type Approval
guidelines can be installed, limiting equipment selection
Commonly held industry belief is that a minimum of 12 months should be allocated for BWTS project execution

Is the system correctly specified?
The devil is in the details• Specific vessel parameters have a significant impact on the
equipment configuration
How is it operated?Where does the crew conduct ballast operations from?
Factory-witnessed testing can identify flaws and enable corrections to be made before system arrives onsite.

The more frequent communication between all parties (maker, engineering firm, installation contractor, operator) the more effective and successful a project execution will be.
Plan early and plan often
