MESSAGE FROM MR OLNEY, HEAD OF SCHOOL The summer term is a really important term for the school, but also for the children as they prepare themselves for the challenges that the new academic year will bring in September. It’s vital that children maintain good attendance, a good work ethic and a good attitudes to learning as they work towards meeting end of year expectations. We will continue to offer a rich and varied curriculum and will continue to push your children to try and be the best that they can be. We are really fortunate at Bure Valley School to have such committed staff and parents. Our parent group The Friends of BVS are second to none, they continue to go above and beyond to support the school. Most recently, the friends of BVS have been raising funds to help the school purchase some new playground equipment/resources for Summer Term 2. We are delighted to announce they have also managed, with the help of Mrs Papworth, to make good use of the Coop’s Local Community Fund Project and in doing so have raised an additional £886! I would just like to take this opportunity to thank each and every parent for donating and for supporting the friend’s events across the year so far. I would also like to give huge thanks to the members of the Friends of BVS for all their wonderful work and fundraising. It really is appreciated. It was great to have Mrs Cogley visit the children in school last week. It was a great tonic for her to see the children; and to see how they are getting on in class. Mrs Cogley wishes them and their families all the best for the remainder of the summer term. MESSAGE FROM MR OLNEY, HEAD OF SCHOOL

The summer term is a really important term for the

school, but also for the children as they prepare

themselves for the challenges that the new academic

year will bring in September. It’s vital that children maintain

good attendance, a good work ethic and a good attitudes to

learning as they work towards meeting end of year expectations. We

push your children to try and be the best that they can be.

We are really fortunate at Bure Valley School to have such committed

staff and parents. Our parent group The Friends of BVS are second to

none, they continue to go above and beyond to support the school.

Most recently, the friends of BVS have been raising funds to help the

managed, with the help of Mrs Papworth, to make good use of the

GIRLS FOOTBALL Well done to the girls football

team who finished as runners-up

of the North Norfolk Girls Spring

Cup. Staff from other schools

complimented the girls and their

attitude as they were so happy,

smiley and excited to be there.

MINI TENNIS IS A SMASH Our year 4 mini tennis players had an

ace time at Cromer Tennis Centre on 4

May, with our A team smashing their

way to 1st place. Eight players were

selected to play as 2 teams in a mini

tennis format, which is played on a

quarter of a normal court with eight

minute games. Points are awarded for each point they win with

under arm serve changing every 2 points. The pupils approached

every game with great enthusiasm and some fantastic rallies were

seen. Several matches were drawn showing the competitive level

of all the children involved. Seven teams competed on the day

with our B team achieving 4th place and the A team getting 1st

equal. Well done to all on a fantastic achievement.

YEAR 6 BOYS FOOTBALL Well done to the Yr 6 boys football team and Mr Warnes for

their 17-0 away win at Reepham on 27 April.

PUPIL ACHIEVEMENTS Many of our pupils take part in activities outside of school. We love hearing about their achievements. If your child takes part

in any activity that you would like to tell us about, please email the office and we will include it on the newsletter. This week we

have two success stories:

Downhill success for Henry

Yr5 pupil, Henry Wakeford, went down hill for all the right reasons on Sunday, 23 April as

he represented the school in the under 12 Eastern Region Ski Association finals. This is a

massive event with 750 races during the meet across all the age ranges. Whilst still an

under 11 he still achieved 13th place (out of 57) in his group so he is looking for even

greater success next year when he races again in the U12 category. Good luck in all

your preparation for next year.

Benjie is the King

A huge congratulations to Yr4 pupil, Benjie Perry, who won his age group at the Norfolk Regional Chess Mega

Finals on Sunday, 30 April. He won all of his 6 games to finish top and now qualifies to represent Norfolk in the

National finals - a magnificent achievement.

BBC 500 WORDS In India class we have been busy writing

for and entering the BBC 500 Words

competition. How far can they go!?

Well, 3 of our class have already

reached round one! Keep writing!

Well done to Poppy, Jess and Rose.

LIBRARY LEADERS The BVS library leaders in front of the RE

core knowledge Bible stories display in

the library that they helped me create.

They wrote the summaries and

explanations on the clouds for a group

of core Bible stories. Mrs Vincent

FACEBOOK/SOCIAL MEDIA

The BVS Facebook Forum is an additional

resource for parents and carers to access information

about the daily life of school and the opportunities

available to families. Mrs Pope and Mrs Cogley act as

administrators for the school and monitor activity/

discussions on the forum. We have concerns that a

very small minority of parents are sometimes using the

forum inappropriately. Should you have any queries,

questions or want to raise a concern please do come

to the school directly and speak with the office, your

child’s class teacher or a member of the leadership

team. We are always happy to support you, answer

any questions you may have or investigate a matter

further on your behalf. We are looking to make some

changes to our official FB Forum in the coming weeks

and we will keep you informed of those changes.

Alongside the Facebook Forum the school’s

Twitter feed is a rich source of information for

parents, carers and the wider community. You

do not have to be on Twitter to follow us. Just

Google our Twitter address: @BureValleySch to see

what we post. We now have over 180 followers, and

soon hope to have Twitter feeds for each year group;

enabling pupils and their teachers to showcase even

more of the learning that takes place in class each

and every day.

LONDON DAY TRIP We are proposing a day trip to London, one Saturday, in the Spring

Term, next year, and want to gauge the level of interest from

parent/carers. We would need to fill a coach for the trip to be

financially viable and expect a seat on the coach to cost in the

region of £12 per person (adult or child). Tickets would be allocated

on a first come first served basis. The coach would leave school

around 7.30am, drop off in a central location and pick up again

around 4.30pm to make the journey home. Families could choose

how they wanted to spend their time together in the capital, but

we envisage that parents might want to take advantage of the

museums, galleries and landmarks London has to offer. If planned

far enough in advance families could make use of, or look out for,

vouchers for discounted entry into a number of attractions. All

children would have to be accompanied by an adult, with a

maximum ratio of three children to one adult. Adults would be

responsible for their children for the duration of the trip as school

would only facilitate the transport and act as a point of contact. If you are interested, please can you register your interest with the

school office so that we can see provisional numbers and decide

whether to proceed?

NEWS

SPA EVENT - WOODGATES NURSERY On Saturday 22 April school parent associations from across the

Aylsham cluster came together at Woodgates Nursery as part of

the SPA’s Growing Day. Local children and their families came

together to participate in a range of free, fun activities. The event

was really well attended and Mr Purdy of Woodgates Nursery was

fantastic in supporting the event and letting the parent associations

use his property. We hope those of you who attended had an

enjoyable hour or two. Once again we give thanks to the parents

who supported the event and ran the BVS stall.

FIDGET CUBES AND SPINNERS The school have decided to ban fidget cubes and spinners from

school as of next week. These toys were advertised originally as

concentration aids for pupils with autism and ADHD, but now appear

to be a popular toy of choice amongst pupils at BVS and beyond. As

more and more children bring their toys to school they are causing

issues in the playground and are a distraction in class. Like BVS many

schools are now banning them. We kindly ask that you support the

school in this decision and keep the toys at home for the evenings

and weekends. Many thanks.

DOOR SAFETY We’ve spoken to all children this week about the importance of

being careful when opening, closing and playing near to doors.

Doors both in school and at home can present a real risk. Please

help your child by helping us to remind them that by taking good

care and attention they can reduce the likelihood of an accident

happening. Thank you

YR6 SATS Over the past few weeks – maybe even months – you have put in

lots of effort in preparation for your SATs. They are important and we

want you to achieve your potential. We are confident you will do

well. You will nail them. We know you will. Be proud. Be confident.

At the moment, you’ve been doing lots of English and Maths, but

you have lots of other skills. Not every skill is taught in school and

even less are tested. You might be a great skateboarder, fantastic at

fashion design or have got green fingers… You might be a people-

person, a problem-solver or a poet. SATs are never going to show off

all these amazing skills. They don’t test whether you’re a creative

person, can write code, whether you are good at teaching IT skills to

your granddad or have a rapport with animals. They don’t test your

speaking skills or whether you can mend anything put in front of you.

They don’t measure whether you’re arty or sporty, musical or love

science. Although subjects like Maths and English are important,

never forget you’ve been given talents in plenty of other areas too.

Don't get stressed. Just do your best. Remember you've been

blessed with skills SATs don't test.

FAMILY LEARNING DAY

As part of the family learning event at the high school on

Saturday, 10 June BVS need to collect as many recycled

plastic bottles as possible. Please donate your plastic drinks

bottles (with lids) to us so that we are able to run our

planned activity.

DONATIONS Please kindly donate costumes and outfits for our lunch time

dressing up/role play box. Items could be: overalls, work wear,

uniforms, everyday clothing, everything and anything; providing it is

clean and appropriate for school. All the children thoroughly enjoy

dressing up, creating characters and games.
