ABOUT BOONAHThe Charming country town of Boonah is nestled among world heritage listed areas, rich in natural beauty.

Proud of its farming history, the town retains its traditional 'High Street' where country shopping, friendly locals and a talented arts community welcome visitors to their town.

Numerous lookouts provide expansive views across fertile valleys to the encircling mountains of the Scenic Rim.

Main Range, Mt Barney and Moogerah Peaks National Parks are easily accessible from Boonah, as are Lake Moogerah and Lake Maroon - two great places for water sports and fishing.

Located 41km west of Beaudesert and 48km south of Ipswich, the town is the primary service centre which caters for the district's needs with a range of businesses, services and commercial activities.

The township of Boonah supports the outlying areas of Kalbar, Harrisville, Peak Crossing, Aratula, Mt Alford, Roadvale, Warrill View, Rosevale, Maroon and Dugandan.

Dairying and pig-raising played important roles during the 20th century, before being overtaken by intensive agriculture. Recent decades have seen a trend back towards cattle grazing.

The heritage aspects of Boonah have developed a progressive tourism industry for the region with several wineries, farm stays and bed and breakfast businesses attracting visitors to the region.

With plenty to see and do, visitors to Boonah will be exposed to a range of activities catering to varying interests.

From gliding clubs to Rose Farms, a golf club, wineries and bushwalking, no interest will be left unaccounted for.

Several national parks also cater to bushwalkers with designated tracks providing an outdoor experience for those inclined. Boonah also boasts two heritage listed national parks.

THE OPPORTUNITYFLAVOURS CAFE - THE HISTORY

The building that now houses Flavours Cafe was purpose built in 1916 as a suite of offices to serve the new Boonah Butter Factory. This building contained the Managers Office, Accountants Office, Clerk's Room, Public Office, storerooms and staff dining room. In total the co-operative spent more than 10,000 pounds on the new factory and office complex.

The butter factory still stands to the north-west of the cafe. The Boonah Butter Factory in its prime was the largest butter factory in the southern hemisphere and had 958 suppliers of cream. The butter was world renowned and was mainly shipped to England. The wooden boxes that the boxes were packed and shipped in were made by the local mills from locally sawn pine.

In 1999 the building was purchased by the Neilsen family and operated by Aran Neilsen for 14 years. During its transformation into Flavours Cafe in 2000 the heritage of the building was enhanced and where ever possible appropriate material was used to bring the building to its wonderful state as it is today. Since the middle of 2014 Flavours Cafe has been operated by Graham Neilsen and Jeanette Richardson. The building has also been made wheelchair accessible.

The Scenic Rim Regional Council recognised the historic significance of the building in 2014 and placed it on the Scenic Rim Heritage Register.

FLAVOURS CAFE - THE BUILDING

The historic character building is situated on a 438m2 block on the corner of Railway Street and Yeates Avenue and is zoned Town Centre Precinct. Significant works have been carried out on the building including restumping that now presents a huge area underneath that may allow for further development or storage/office areas as well as having plenty of scope internally to further enlarge the dining areas to cater for the growing trade. The character of the building allows the customers of Flavours Cafe to enjoy fine food, tea and coffee in a truly remarkable old building.

FLAVOURS CAFE - THE BUSINESS

Flavours Cafe is a fully licenced cafe/restaurant and is situated on the Corner of Railway Street and Yeates Avenue in Boonah which is the gateway to the Fassifern. The business trades 7 days a week servicing local customers as well as enjoying very strong weekend trading catering to the many day trippers that enjoy Boonah and its surrounds. The Cafe also hosts private bookings as well as designated bus tour customers. Customers can choose to dine in the outdoor area, on the verandahs or inside the charming Cafe. The current owners have upgraded the kitchen facilities, display cabinet, storage room, air conditioning, tables and chairs and signage. There is still plenty of scope to grow this profitable business.
