Some conversions are more unusual than others requiring highly bespoke and skilled work. While this could alarm most convertors this is our strength. Passenger entrance can be through either the side sliding door or the passenger door. The side sliding door offers more entrance headroom while the front passenger door option is favoured by PSV operators.

M2 regulations stipulate minimum step heights so all minibuses will require an auxiliary step. Each step option offers benefits to the operator. Some OE minibuses come with their own sliding step. Where this isn’t the case a kick-out cassette step offers a solution which takes up the least space. The GM Fold Out Step™ provides a two step format which is manually operated and encompasses built-in handrails. The design and operation of the FoldOut Step™ makes this a low maintenance option. For PSV operators requiring front entrance access the triple step conversion offers a solution. See page 18 for the Ford Transit FALCON™ entrance conversion.

UNDERFLOOR LIFTS

An underfloor lift is used should the roof height of the vehicle be insufficient for an inboard lift or if space is an issue in the rear cabin. The underfloor lift is housed in a cassette beneath the rear of the vehicle and is electrically operated by a handheld control pad.

INBOARD LIFTS

Available in a wide range of sizes the inboard lift is stowed upright inside the rear doors. It is operated by a handset with four buttons which operate deployment and stowage and raising and lowering of the platform.

Ideal where space is at a premium the tip and fold seat provides a compact solution with integral seat belts.

SEATING

There are many styles of seat featuring different heights of backrest, cushion widths and trim materials. Tip and fold seats take up less room than conventional seats making them ideal for confined spaces. Removable seats require a tracked floor and will feature an anti-rattle quick release lockable fixture to secure them into the tracking. These seats are ideal If you’re looking to create luggage space or room for a wheelchair.

The University of Kent required a mobile unit with all the equipment they need for ophthalmic consultations. This highly individual vehicle was fitted with all they needed to offer a mobile service. Included in the vehicle were hand washing facilities, desk tops with underneath storage trays, multiple 240V sockets, LED cabin lighting, leisure batteries and a smart charger.

This mobile editing suite was designed for BBC Disabilty Correspondent Nikki Fox. Fitted into a Mercedes Viano, the vehicle featured an editing suite with desk top and twin screens, racking in the rear to house banks of outside broadcast equipment and an AutoAdaptTurny Evo seat to assist Nikki in getting in and out of the vehicle.

Designed as a youth community centre on wheels this bespoke build featured a flat screen TV, turntable with twin mounted speakers, USB points, working area for laptop PC’s, bench seating and a table for 4 and a lesiure battery and charger. Outside a side awning and custom graphics finish the look.

NATIONWIDE DELIVERY

Your vehicle will be delivered to your door by one of our professional delivery drivers. They will explain all the features and demonstrate any equipment fitted to the vehicle and ensure you are 100% happy.

QUALITY STANDARDS

GM Coachwork is an ISO9001 (2015) and ISO14001 (2015) accredited company so you have peace of mind your dealing with a business where quality is at its heart. Every aspect of the vehicle build is recorded and quality controlled with the Production Manager personally checking and signing off every vehicle.

THREE YEAR WARRANTY

All our conversions come with a 3 year warranty. This additional peace of mind is on top of the manufacturers 3 year warranty.

AFTER SALES SERVICE

Our dedicated team of aftercare specialists are available to handle any warranty claims. If you operate a vehicle fitted with a tail lift there is a legal requirement to inspect and service your lift regularly. Our mobile lift service engineers will appraise and test your lift and provide full inspection report and weight test certificate.

AFTER SALES

We believe after sales service is equally important as the attention you receive before formalising your vehicle order. That’s why we have a dedicated team of warranty staff and post-sales support staff to help you in the unlikley event of a problem.


BUYERS GUIDE

Did you pass your test before 1 January 1997?

Drivers who passed their car test (category B) before 1 January 1997 were automatically given additional entitlement to drive a minibus with 9 to 16 seats (17 seats to include the driver, category D1) NOT used for hire or financial reward.

Did you pass your test after 1 January 1997?

If you passed your test on, or after, 1 January 1997 you were not granted D1 (not for hire or reward) entitlement. The category B entitlement you would have allows you to drive vehicles with no more than 8 passenger seats (9 seats including driver).

However, you may still drive a 9 to 16 seat minibus (17 seats including driver) provided the following conditions are met:

a) you have held a category B licence for at least 2 years and are over 21 years old.

b) you receive no payment or consideration for driving the vehicle other than out-of-pocket expenses.

c) the minibus has a gross weight not exceeding 3.5 tons (4.25 tons including any specialised equipment for carriage of disabled passengers).

If you have passed your test on or after 1 January 1997 and you wish to drive a minibus with a gross weight in excess of 3.5 tons you will have to take and pass a D1 driving test which can be costly and inconvenient.

PLEASE NOTE: Minibus Lite specifications 1, 3 and 5 can be driven on a standard B car licence. Drivers must be over 21 years of age and have held a full driving licence for at least 2 years.

DRIVING A LIGHTWEIGHT MINIBUS

From Plymouth & Cornwall:

• Drive North on A38

• Pass exit for Newton Abbot/Bovey Tracey

• Drive for 2.4 miles

• Exit A38 at junction marked Teign Valley/Chudleigh

• Turn left at the top of the slip road

• Downhill for 200 yards

• Turn right onto the B3193 marked - Teign Valley/

Dunsford


• GM Coachwork are on the right hand side.

From the North:

• Drive south on the M5

• At junction 31 the M5 becomes the A38 - drive

towards Plymouth

• Continue on the A38 for 9.6 miles

• Exit at the Junction marked - Teign Valley/Chudleigh

Knighton

• Turn right at the top of the exit slipway

• Downhill for 300 yards

• Turn right onto the B3193 marked - Teign Valley/

Dunsford
