About Us

Buzbee Dental Clinic - Springfield, MO

More than 38 years of enhancing the relationships between people and their environments confirm that our focus is precisely where it should be: on our clients, their customers and patrons. Since we began in 1978, we’ve added services and professionals with expertise in architecture, project management, planning and development. Today, you can see the results of our influence in more and more cities all over the United States and in our hometown of Springfield, Missouri.

A look at our firm reveals a broad scope of expertise that has been refined by solid experience in specific industries and markets. For every phase of planning and construction, for any type of development, or for civic or commercial purposes, Butler, Rosenbury & Partners offers you the confidence of working with professionals focused on projects just like yours.

We’ve completed more types of projects than many firms. This diversity brings us fresh and new perspectives for our clients and creative solutions that may not have been immediately envisioned.

Service At Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, we believe that service is more than an attitude. It has to be backed up by action with results you can feel good about. We pride ourselves on our ability to consistently deliver client satisfaction. We believe that service means rolling up your sleeves, getting in the trenches and doing more than just the basics.

Client FocusWe excel at knowing our clients and looking at their projects from all angles. Our team members immerse themselves in all phases of planning, design and construction. We help our clients resolve feasibility and use issues. We can also guide them through resolution of referenda, bond matters, permitting and any other issue that may arise during the project.

When a client needs a service that falls outside our areas of expertise, we hire only the best consultants. They provide services such as mechanical and electrical engineering, fire protection and acoustical engineering among others. As consultants, they answer to our standards of quality assurance and client satisfaction.

Our ability to serve our clients comes from years of working together as a team. Our goal is to be the standard against which others are judged for excellence, integrity and leadership in land planning, architecture, engineering and interior design.

Design Philosophy Great design is a commitment to high standards and requires balance among quality, economy and scope. Achieving this balance involves simple solutions based on intelligent ideas. Our design approach embraces trust and intimacy. By presenting multiple design solutions and openly evaluating each alternative with our clients, we build a relationship that leads to consensus for the best design solution. That’s why

we believe in a process that’s inclusive instead of exclusive. People want integrity in the services they get and the solutions they choose. Achieving this isn’t always easy, but we know our clients and their projects are worth it.

About Us

“Our working relationship with Butler, Rosenbury & Partners was

and is superb! We couldn’t have been more pleased with the

responsiveness and relationship we enjoyed with the firm.”

Jim Anderson, Former President, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce

Buzbee Dental Clinic

This clinic for Buzbee Dental is the result of a consolidation and expansion of a local hospital. The hospital traded prop-erty for the new location, and the result is a state-of-the-art dental clinic for a four dentist practice. It is equipped with 16 chairs, two surgery suites, sterilization area, lab, doctor’s offices, general offic-es, surgery recovery suite, consultation rooms, and waiting room. The design intent was to showcase their technology through the building’s architecture.

Arnold Vision ASC

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size11,000 sq. ft.

This 7,000 sq. ft. eye clinic and adja-cent 4,000 sq. ft. licensed ambulato-ry surgery center is one of four clinics BR&P has completed for Dr. Arnold and the second facility with an ambulatory surgery center.

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size17,000 sq. ft.

Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center

Originally designed and built for Dr. Paul Arnold, this facility includes a 12,000 sq. ft. eye clinic on the upper level and a licensed, two operatory ambulatory sur-gical center on the lower level. Renamed as the Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center, the facility has been fully expanded and remodeled. We have also provided ser-vices for their branch offices in Lebanon, Branson and Monett.

Cox Medical Plaza II

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size100,000 sq. ft.

This seven-story, medical office build-ing was completed in 1995. In addi-tion to the office building, the project included a parking garage expansion.

BR&P was part of a joint venture team with another local firm. The building was designed to mirror the original Cox Medical Plaza Building which was completed as a speculative of-fice building seven years earlier. Cox Medical Plaza II was designed with a larger structural grid allowing for more efficient use of the interior space for clinics.

The general contractor was selected at the same time as the design team. BR&P and the construction team worked together to complete the proj-ect within the board-approved budget and timeframe.

BR&P’s responsibilities included com-plete architectural, engineering and interior design services for the building, the private practice and hospital-owned physician groups.

Meyer Center for Wellness & Rehabilitation

The Meyer Center for Wellness & Reha-bilitation combines the resources of a fitness center and an outpatient reha-bilitation clinic. This complex was the first phase of the master plan BR&P de-veloped for CoxHealth that includes a connection to the Ferrell Duncan Bone and Joint Center, the Meyer Orthope-dic Hospital and future clinic facilities.

The design, with its broad, barrel-vault-ed wood roof, recalls an athletic field house. The structure includes a dynamic two-story space with a translucent east glass wall which allows natural light into the facility, patrons to look outside and the public to have a glimpse of the fitness activities within.

The complex contains a 27,000 sq. ft. rehabilitation clinic and a 75,000 sq. ft. wellness center with physical and vi-sual connections between the two. This

connection introduces to physical ther-apy patients the relationship between fitness and health.

Transitioning rehabilitation patients from clinical treatment into a wellness program within one facility lessens the psychological impact on patients, and was a key planning element. The well-ness center and clinic have their own distinct entrances and reception areas. The wellness center includes a six-lane lap pool, therapy pool, gymnasium, racquetball courts, cardio and strength training areas and a 1/9th mile track. Other amenities include a deli, chil-dren’s gym and locker rooms with whirl-pool spas, steam rooms and saunas.

The rehabilitation center contains a physical therapy gym, neuro gym, pedi-atric gym, occupational therapy areas, and a multi-use clinic.

McCune Brooks Medical Office Building

LocationCarthage, MO

Size4,000 sq. ft.

The 13 acre McCune Brooks Health-care Park is located on land owned by the McCune Brooks Foundation. The foundation had reserved the property when the hospital was developed and built specifically for this type of devel-opment. In 2009, the McCune Brooks Foundation hired Geoffrey Butler, AIA, of Butler Rosenbury & Partners, Inc. (BR&P), a recognized healthcare spe-cialist, to masterplan the development and to manage the development pro-cess for the foundation.

The masterplan for the healthcare park calls for a series of medical and health-care related buildings and the potential for a senior living component with up to 60 living units for seniors. The plan calls for a staged development which allows buildings to be built as the need arises. The foundation maintains archi-tectural control of all buildings which

ensures that the development will con-tinue to reflect high quality architecture compatible with the hospital.

The first building, which Haffner Family Holdings, LLC is developing, is 4,000 sq. ft. and has two medical offices. The first one is a clinic for Jonathan Haffner, MD and the other will be used by the hospital for transient specialty physician groups to work out of as well as for another physician which the hospital is working to recruit. BR&P was the archi-tect for that building as well.

Martin Center for Diagnostic & Imaging Services

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size81,000 sq. ft.

AwardsPublic Recognition Award for

Healthcare Facilities, 2005AIA Springfield Design Awards

This four story outpatient diagnostic im-aging and endoscopy facility was cre-ated by expanding an existing 27,000 sq. ft., two-story general office building adjacent to the CoxHealth campus.

The site’s prominent location overlook-ing a freeway allowed the building to have great presence with easy access and identification of its outpatient ser-vices. The existing office building was designed for six stories, but the floor plates were too small to be efficient for the new use. The floor to floor heights were also too short to accommodate mechanical and electrical equipment needs for imaging, medical and clinic space.

The redesign resulted in a larger ground floor, allowing all diagnostic imaging to be housed on one floor in addition to public spaces and vertical circulation elements.

The imaging facility includes two MRI units, fluoroscopy, CT Scan, ultrasound and x-ray services. The second floor in-cludes eight outpatient endoscopy pro-cedure rooms.

The third and forth floors were added to the existing building and provided space for 32 pre- and post-procedure holding and recovery suites, and space for future outpatient services.

The Turner Center for Women & Children

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size19,689 sq. ft.

The Turner Center is an existing medical office building on the CoxHealth cam-pus. Completed in 1986, the building was in need of a facelift and interior improvements.

The renovation included the first and second floor common areas, Women’s Center Clinic and Pediatric Urgent Care. The new lobby design features metal paneling and column wraps. Outdated lighting was replaced with hospitali-ty-style fixtures and a family restroom was incorporated into the lobby adjacent to the Pediatric Urgent Care suite.

The Women’s Center Clinic has a curve and ribbon design theme. Vinyl woodgrain flooring in the patient waiting and retail area create a boutique feel, rather than a clinic look.

The Pediatric Urgent Care clinic aesthetic focuses on playful geometric shapes and bright non-primary colors. The design is universal to all pediatric patients and the waiting area’s custom lighting and mural are entertaining focal points.

For operational efficiency, the Adult Ur-gent Care clinic was also incorporated into the facility.

Feisthamel Dental Clinic

LocationBattlefield, MO

Size2,800 sq. ft.

The Feisthamel Dental Clinic is a free-standing facility which includes five treatment rooms, Panorex imaging space, lab area and admission support areas.

Stockton Health Center

LocationStockton, MO

Size19,000 sq. ft.

Stockton Health Center began as a re-sult of a devastating tornado that swept through the area in 2003. The existing clinic was destroyed, so Cedar County Memorial Hospital decided to sell the property and build in a new location in Stockton. The clinic is now a two-story facility housing the local medical clinic complete with exam rooms, surgery center, x-ray, lab and doctor’s offices, the county health department, a large conference center, support kitchen and break room, a pharmacy, and a fitness and wellness center with physical ther-apy. Space is available for expansion adjacent to the fitness area.

Howell Valley Medical Park

LocationWest Plains, MO

Size20 acres

Howell Valley Medical Park is a 20 acre development in West Plains. This med-ical park was the brainchild of a group of physicians who wanted to provide a place for new medical clinics and an ambulatory surgery center to serve the physicians in the West Plains area. This medical park was planned and devel-oped jointly in a design-build effort with Nabholz for that physician group.

BR&P provided planning, zoning, infrastructure and construction admin-istration of the medical park project with Nabholz. The team designed and constructed a state-certified Ambulatory Surgery Center with four operatories, an eye clinic and an ob/gyn clinic. This project was successfully completed in 2004.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size53,000 sq. ft.

The new operations facility for the Com-munity Blood Center of the Ozarks is an adaptive reuse project of a grocery store, and an addition of a mainte-nance garage and separate garage for loading mobile units. The existing struc-ture is constructed of concrete block walls with a steel-framed roof structure. All interior walls, finishes and equip-ment were removed to leave an open shell to receive new laboratories, donor center, conference rooms, offices, and storage mezzanine.

Due to differences in use from the for-mer grocery store and the amount of new equipment and systems required, new plumbing, electrical, mechani-cal, and emergency generator systems were a part of the renovation. The fa-cade received a facelift with new color schemes, removal or reuse of existing canopies and a new garden feature.

The project was intended to give the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks much needed additional space and a more accessible location as the com-munity-based, non-for-profit organiza-tion continues to supply 36 hospitals in a three state region with vital blood supplies.

The project had an eight month con-struction timeframe with an estimated construction budget for the total project of $4.8 million. The design and con-struction team was assembled by the client in the early stages of the project to assist with providing an accelerated project delivery. BR&P provided archi-tectural design, structural engineering, landscape architecture, and interior design.

Alms Dental Clinic

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size9,348 sq. ft.

The 4,674 sq. ft. dental office main lev-el includes a vestibule, lobby and wait-ing room, administrative offices, toilets, breakroom with lockers, an open exam area with six chairs, two private exam rooms, a sterilization area, laboratory, consultation room, x-ray room, pano area, and stairs to the 4,674 sq. ft. basement area. The building construc-tion is a poured concrete basement wall with a concrete slab over metal deck and structural steel beam and bar joist floor framing system, wood stud walls and wood roof trusses for the roof framing system. The exterior is stone and brick, with wood accents and glass storefront. The roof is architectur-al shingles over wood decking.

Fremont Medical Building Phases I, II and III

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size125,000 sq. ft.

This medical office building located on the campus of St. John’s Regional Health Center (now Mercy), was built for the physician partnership that occupied the building. The project was initially designed as a two phase, 80,000 sq. ft. building, including an underground connector to the hospital. Demand for clinic space quickly necessitated a third phase be added to the project.

Built over a six year period, BR&P de-signed and served as construction manager on the project. Clinic suites range in size from 1,000 sq. ft., sin-gle-practitioner suites to 15,000 sq. ft. clinics.

National Avenue Medical Building

LocationSpringfield, MO

Size123,000 sq. ft.

This building was originally designed as a 40,000 square foot medical office building. It filled up quickly and the 40,000 square foot East Wing shell was added. BR&P was hired to complete all of the interior office suites for the East Wing. Within two years, the 43,000 square foot North Wing was designed by BR&P and included a Radiation Treatment Center with a 12 MEV Linear Accelerator, a 20 MEV Linear Accelera-tor and a Simulator. The medical suites in the building included a diagnostic imaging center, minor surgery suites, clinics, chemotherapy treatment facilities and offices.
