2. Requirements of the modern electrical distribution system

Ease of Installation

• Have to pull out the old cable and use a new cable in case of change in load position.

• Moving or adding a load??Whole line power needs to be switched off

• Easy to change the load position

• Moving or adding a load = No interruption of the line. PIU up to 400A can even be handled while power is ON.

Installation of Cable Installation of Busway

• More Space

• Large radius for bending and turning

• More cables required for same amount of power due to higher voltage drop associated with cables

• Less space

• Same as straight length, no extra space required

AS/NZS 61439.6 are reproduced from IEC 61439-6, Ed. 1.0 (2012). Appendix ZZ in AS/NZS talks about variations from the IEC standards as follows: -

a) Variations in clause 7 (Service conditions)As per IEC 61439, the normal service conditions are 35 °C average, 40 °C maximum. These conditions might not be suitable in many parts of Australia.

b) Variation in clause 10.102 (Fire resistance in building penetration)This clause talks about additional requirements of National building codes in Australia and New Zealand for Fire Resistance performance of Busduct

in building penetration. The local standard is AS1530.4:2012.
