Business Professional of America attend Regional Conference

On January 14 Florence Business Professional of America students competed at their

regional conference in Missoula. All seven participants qualified for the state com-

petition in March. These students are advised by Florence business/technology

teachers, Keri Briney and Laci Dunfee.

Dean Klakken placed 3rd in graphic design promotion. In payroll accounting Levi

Clagett placed 3rd, Reese LeSoine placed 4th and Teresa Stolle placed 5th. Cody

Vacca, Chance Venters, Levi Clagett and Reese LeSoine placed 2nd in computer an-

imation. And finally, winning the web design competition was Teresa Stolle, Dean

Klakken and Ashley Hornaday.

Business Professionals of America is the leading CTSO (Career and Technical

Student Organization) for students pursuing careers in business management, office

administration, information technology and other related career fields. Students

demonstrate their career skills at regional, state and national conferences within 72

competitive events

BPA has 43,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states. BPA is a co-curricular

organization that supports business and information technology educators by offer-

ing co-curricular exercises based on national standards.

The Florence-Carlton School District will be holding a School Election by mail ballot on May 5, 2015. The elec-tion will be a mail ballot election with the designated place of deposit located at the Ravalli County Election Office, 215 South 4th Street, Hamilton, MT. The Florence-Carlton School District Conference Room will have a deposit box available on Election Day only (May 5, 2015 7:00 a.m.—8:00 p.m. There is one Board of Trustee position open for a three-year term. This position is currently held by Mr. Mel Fin-lay. The second trustee position open is for a one-year term and currently held by Dan James. Absentee ballots are available to all voters. “Application for Absentee Ballot” forms are available at the District Office, online, and the Courthouse in Hamil-ton or Missoula, or can be mailed or faxed to you. Trustee candidates file for election. Nomination Peti-tion and Oath of Candidacy must be filed with election ad-ministrator. No person signing a petition may sign more nomination petitions than there are trustee positions open. No candidate may appear on the ballot unless he or she meets this deadline of March 26, 2015 Important dates to remember are: March 26—Deadline to file for trustee election. April 6—Voter registration closes. A voter must regis-

ter by this deadline to vote in the school election. Voter registration cards are available at the District Office or at the County Election Offices in Hamilton and Missou-la.

May 4—Deadline for absentee request. Absentee bal-lots cannot be requested after 12:00 (noon)

May 5—Election Day.

Election Information

Falcons earn Academic All-State Honors in Football and Volleyball

The Montana Coaches Association announced that the Florence Falcons Volleyball

team placed 10 girls on the Academic All-State Team and the

Florence Falcons Football team placed 9 boys on the Aca-

demic All-State Team. Varsity players must have at least a

3.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale for the quarter. Volleyball

players were Megan Byrne, Thyler Darrah, Hudsyn DiBrito,

Kristyne Drozdz, Natalie Drozdz, Rylie Hawkins, Sabrina

Hopcroft, Kourtney Kohlman, Autumn

Round, and Shay Waldbillig.

Football players were David Difort, Jayce Blomquist, Braxton

McCullough, Daniel Parsons, Cody Randles, Ethan Stensrud,

Shane Thorson, Dawson Thrasher, and Chance Venters.

Dear Parents and Community Members,

The Board of Trustees is planning to hold a series of public

meetings to formulate a Strategic Plan for the district. With

the help of the Montana School Boards Association, the

Board and the community will be able to set the guidelines

that will lead the district not only for the near future but for

many years into the future. MTSBA’s Strategic Planning

consists of 4 Phases: Community Engagement, Establishing

the Core Ideology, Measuring the Distance from Present to

Envisioned Future, and Transitioning to a Way of Operat-

ing. MTSBA takes a systematic and sustainable approach

to district strategic improvement planning and the Board of

Trustees encourages all stakeholders in the district to come

help us map out the districts future. The meetings will take

place on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the District Conference

Room from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm each night.

Booster Club needs your help. There are many things that need updating

at our school and we have been looking into many projects:

1. New lockers in the locker rooms: Cost ranges between $15,000-

$22,000 therefore this will be a long term project requiring some

fundraising. We are considering installing lock boxes for valuables

in the locker rooms to increase security in the short term.

2. Padded chairs for the gym sidelines have been ordered.

3. We will be updating the football concession stand this spring/

summer. Dale Roos has donated new cabinets. THANK YOU!! We

are looking for anyone who might have a countertop to donate.

4. Crystal Lineback and Sewtown have teamed up with us to make sure

you can show your School spirit in the latest fashions, with a wide

variety of Falcon Wear for all Sports. Look for her at most home

basketball games in the lobby. Thanks Crystal!!

5. Football bleachers are in desperate need of updating. This may also

be a long term project if funds cannot be allocated through the dis-

trict.

6. Our annual Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Saturday, May

30. Get your teams lined up! We are looking for Hole Sponsors,

Hole Prizes and Raffle Items, contact Taleen Harrington 544-4463.

7. We need a few people to help with concessions, especially shopping

and closing after games. Please call Delaine Maki at 241-1709 if you

can stay after a game for 20 minutes and help out.

8. We will be electing new officers in April. If you are interested (or

know someone who might be), there are several positions opening

up. Please come to our next meeting.

We meet the second Monday of every month at 6 p.m. in the library.

Anyone in the community is welcome to attend and bring their ideas and

suggestions!

"CHRISTMAS PAST, CLOSETS FULL" SHOES FOR AFRICA

I hope that everyone had a safe and happy holiday season,

but I'm sure that many parents (and even a few students) are glad to see school

open once again.

With all the lute that Santa brought, you may need a little more space to store it all.

Well, the Florence Carlton Community Church is still looking for sturdy, used

shoes (and socks too) that still have some wear and tear left in them to donate to

needy Africans who desperately need shoes (and socks).

All sizes and types of shoes and socks (adult sizes too) will be gladly accepted!

Please be assured that any boots or shoes deemed not appropriate for Africa

will be donated to local families and/or Missoula Goodwill.

Just drop them off in the bin at Jody's office in the Elementary building. This is a

wonderful way to give and gain some much needed space in your closets. So far

we estimate we have collected over 500 pairs of shoes and are nearing a thousand

thanks to this community's generosity!

I can only imagine the looks on so many deserving faces at the Sakila Village in

Tanzania, Africa, when they see the huge collection of all kinds of shoes in all

colors and sizes.
