Business Concept 

Restaurant, Pub & Games (RPG) is a hip and nostalgic tavern, where the primary source of entertainment is a massive library of tabletop board games.  Our mission statement is:  To provide a space, which connects people to the world, fostering face-to-face connections between all types of people in the community.  We do this a few different ways:  

● Connecting people to the world - The new trend of tabletop gaming pubs is growing in the United States, primarily on the East and West coasts. However, most of them are trying to make something like a sanctuary for geeks. Trader’s Cache is different because rather than isolating a small sub-culture and reinforcing their disconnect from the surrounding world, we want to help build new relationships between individual hobbyists and the everyday American - between an underground hobby and mainstream culture. We do that through the following:  

● A comfortable pub atmosphere - Almost everybody likes to go to the pub. It used to be the cultural center for meeting, exchanging ideas, and building new relationships. We want to keep that tradition alive.  

● Tabletop gaming - Far from watering down the hobby itself, Trader’s Cache will provide a large library of approximately 800-1200 tabletop board games. The leadership team has made it a priority to stay up-to-date on all the most exciting, relevant games and trends in the industry. From new, cutting-edge games to retro out-of-print games, we will be sure to include games which true hobbyists, as well as the casual gamer, will enjoy. Additionally, Trader’s Cache will offer soundproof booths for the group of players who want a little more privacy for their game.  

● Community Events - In the same way we want to build relationships between the hobbyist and the world, we will build relationships between the hobbyist and the industry of Tabletop Gaming itself. Community events will include competitions, community games, forum panel discussions with celebrities and leaders in the industry, and beta-testing of new products. 

 The restaurant itself fuses together a trendy elevated dining experience with a retro flavor and art deco flair. In the same space that you’ll see old polished wood, wrought-iron structures, and whiskey casks, you’ll see posters of 80’s Dungeons & Dragons paraphernalia, large framed mirrors, and old timey edison light bulbs. The atmosphere will feel hip, cool, and nostalgic.

Another important aspect of Trader’s Cache‘s concept is the renaissance and resurgence of Mead. Trader’s Cache offers various meads on tap from local, regional, and national meaderies. Otherwise, there will be a full bar available to patrons.  We offer a menu of 10-12 items and 1-2 desserts, depending on seasonal specials. It is globally-inspired, elevated bar food.  Our clientele will be between ages 18-35. We cater to the college age as well as young professionals with and without young children.

Market Analysis & Clientele Demographics 

In terms of similar local organizations, RPG compares on a few different levels:  

● The closest model is a bar in Kansas City called Pawns and Pints. They are also a bar which provides a library of board games as the main entertainment. Trader’s Cache is similar in concept, and in their experience which gives a mood of high quality and hip, rather than a grungy hole-in-the-wall. Our prices are similar, in that we will charge $5 to play for an unlimited amount of time with as many games as desired.  Where we differ is that we provide our own food ( Pawns and Pints contracts their menu out to a neighboring restaurant). We offer a selection of meads as a novelty not provided at their establishment. Our tavern has special upstairs dining area which patrons can rent; and our aesthetic will be less medieval (compared to Pawns and Pints), and more retro. Finally, we offer a more approachable subscription based pricing model, which includes more than just admission as Pawns and Pints does.  

● A local bar which is similar in terms of clientele and aesthetic is Red Lyon . They have an old-English vibe which promotes a mood of nostalgia and tradition. We aim to provide those same feelings, though the tradition will lean more toward a rich history of gaming and pop culture. Their mostly-iron-and-wooden structures are similar to what Trader’s Cache will build, as well. Moreover, our prices for drinks will be very similar, as we will operate in the same local market.  Our establishment differs primarily in terms of entertainment. Obviously, Red Lyon does not have board games, nor do they have meads on tap. 

 The marketing for Trader’s Cache is directed primarily to 25-35 year old middle-class males who are interested in tabletop gaming. This is social media advertising, website, blog, vlog, and special marketing events. This demographic responds highly to online marketing.  However, our patrons are much more than this demographic. College students, women, and older adults (aged 35-60) also participate as a result of our connections to the various gaming meetup groups, college groups, and other community groups.

Management Team 

Executive Team  Nate Morsches, President & Co-Founder, Owner  Nate Morsches has leadership experience in many different fields. First of all, husband of Meghan, and father of Peter, Charlie, Sarah, and Leo. A network leader in the CityChurch National Network. A charge nurse in Lawrence’s very own Emergency Room at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Founder and CEO of The Borough. He is also an avid tabletop gamer. Game of choice: Dungeons & Dragons.  Matt Pool, VP of Operations & Co-Founder, Owner  Matt Pool was raised on table-top games. His dad raised him on Hero Quest and he played a lot of 3.5 D&D in college. He married Betsy and their shared joy of board games has only blossomed; they have three boys together. Matt is on the leadership team for CityChurch Lawrence and was the CIO for The Borough. He is the go-to IT guy for all his family and friends, designs and maintains websites as a hobby, and prefers Mac over Windows, and Android over iPhone, and loves Chromebooks, and will talk to you for hours about all the amazing things Google is doing if you let him.   Meghan Morsches, VP of Aesthetics & Co-Founder, Owner  Meghan Morsches is married to Nate Morsches. Meghan loves bringing people together in her home to play games. She enjoys lively group games like Taboo and Mad Gabs. Before staying home with their four kids she was the director of a summer day camp for kids and a registered nurse. She has also worked in retail management and appreciates the challenges of managing a business.   Betsy Pool, VP of Marketing and Gaming & Co-Founder, Owner  Betsy Pool has always enjoyed table-top games, bringing up new games at family gatherings. She and her husband Matt have several games they rotate through when they can in the evenings. Her current favorite: Century Spice Road. She has been staying at home part time with three boys, and homeschooling the oldest. She also is a doula and has supported many couples throughout pregnancy and birth. Finally, her current dream is to someday publish a book.
