Overview of BPC Roundtable 2018 Osaka On this 30th anniversary milestone of the BPC affiliation, the City of Osaka and Osaka Business Partner City Council held the “Business Partner City (BPC) Roundtable 2018” at the Hyatt Regency Osaka on August 30, 2018 (Thurs.). At this conference that gathers representatives from each of its member Business Partner Cities, nine cities presented undertakings and challenges under the theme “Creation of Business Innovation and Strengthening of International Competitiveness in Business Partner Cities,” and were then followed up with active exchange of opinions among all fellow participants. In the afternoon after the Osaka Business and Investment Center (O-BIC) hosted “BPC Networking Luncheon,” the “BPC Business Innovation Seminar” joint program was hosted to introduce Osaka’s private sector’s efforts to promote open innovation and foster venture companies; and the “World EXPO 2025 Promotion Tour” was programmed to both introduce Osaka City’s efforts in bringing World EXPO 2025 to Osaka, as well as outline Yumeshima District as a candidate site for the Expo. Additionally, “Vietnam IT Business Meeting 2018” was held in a different venue to provide the business delegates from Vietnam and the businesses in Japan with business opportunities. In the evening, the City of Osaka hosted the “BPC Roundtable Networking Reception”. Echoing with the conference’s discussion theme, Mayor Yoshimura began by making the “BPC Osaka declaration” towards further collaborations in innovation creation and economic growth in the BPC region. Afterwards, approximately 120 individuals from BPC Roundtable participants, foreign diplomatic offices and economic organization etc. actively interacted with each other at the venue. On 29th (Wed.), the day before the Roundtable Meeting, the “Osaka City Innovation Tour” was conducted. The tour included an explanation of Osaka City’s initiative to create innovation, and also an Osaka startups’ pitch session at Osaka Innovation Hab. A “BPC Roundtable Welcome Dinner” was then held afterwards. Furthermore, on 31st (Fri.), the day after the Roundtable Meeting, the “Osaka Bay Area Tour” was conducted. In the tour, Roundtable Meeting participants visited INTEX Osaka (G20 Osaka Summit 2019 Venue Candidate) and the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) to investigate the latest trends in Osaka Bay Area.
