ADVERTISER ’S ANNOUNCEMENT

The business at topof its gameSIX years ago David Elliott set up a

small business in Shepley convertingvans into compact camper vehicles.Since then the successful business hasbecome known as one of the UK’spremier converters of compact homes.

Set up in March 2003,Wellhouse Leisure has never dealt in budget orbargain camper vans, but instead has focused on offering quality, style and excellence in converting luxury people carriers and vansinto compact camper vehicles.

With a wealth of knowledge in the industry, David has taken thebusiness from strength to strength, seeing it progress from a smallfactory with just three members of staff, to an impressively largeshowroom, factory and workshop boasting a strong team of 16.

Currently converting around 120camper vans a year for national andinternational trading, it’s clear theShepley business is at top of its game.

“Due to the quick growth anddevelopment of the business we soonneeded new premises with a larger

factory as well as space for a showroom and workshops to meetdemand,” says David.

“We believe customers from throughout the UK and abroad pick usbecause they know we don’t cut corners and they get exactly whatthey pay for – high quality.”

The company specialise in a range of conversions on vehicles shippeddirectly from Japan, in particular Toyotas, picked to match WellhouseLeisure’s high standards in fixtures and fittings.

The first class conversions are carriedout in the company’s modern factorywhere all vehicles undergo strictquality control and a full mechanicalinspection to ensure all work iscompleted to the highest standardsbefore entering the showroom.

Over the years Wellhouse Leisure has extended its services furtherthan conversions, with the skilled workforce now offering repairs,MOTs, services, valets and bodyshop work on all makes and models ofcamper vans.Wellhouse are also in the process of opening a specialistcaravan service centre.

And a new branch of the business has set Wellhouse Leisure on theroad to further success - camper hire in the UK and New Zealand.

“When the recession hit us at the end of 2008 we looked for ways oftaking the business forward by adapting to the current climate,” saysDavid. “This led us to hire out a fleet of vans at both our branch inShepley and Christchurch, New Zealand.”

“With many people choosing toholiday in the UK instead of forking outfor trips abroad during the creditcrunch, the business really took off andwe have been given grants and awardsto support and celebrate this.

“The UK Trading Industry providedus with a grant to expand the hireside of the business to boosttourism and to reinforce this wehave been working closely withthe Yorkshire Tourism Board.

“Meanwhile, Yorkshire Forward &Business Link gave us a grantwhich enabled us to furtherdevelop the servicing side of thebusiness by getting staff Gas Safetrained.

“In addition, we recently won a first place awardin the Yorkshire Business Link’s ‘Bucking theTrend’ competition, which recognises business-es that have used forward thinking during therecession.

“We now aim to keep this forward thinkinggoing by developing the hire side of thecompany further, while following up enquiriesfrom people throughout the UK who want tobuy our vehicles to hire out.”

David believes Wellhouse Leisure’s ongoingsuccess is down to its simple philosophy – keepcustomers satisfied by providing them with abetter standard of service and value for moneythan anyone else.

We are based on the A629/A635 junction on the Sovereign Crossroads at Shepley.

Open Monday to Friday 9pm till 5pm Weekends 10pm till 4pm.

Consider your optionswhen retiring

Eden Personal Financial Planning Limited is an appointed representative of the Whitechurch Network Ltd. which is regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

Bonfire night has passed yet again, dark nightshave drawn in and fireworks are lighting the sky. Itdoesn’t seem two minutes to me since I wasstanding around last year’s bonfire. I can’t believehow quickly the past year has gone.

The down side to this of course is that we are all a yearolder, a year nearer to our retirement. So for those ofyou who are approaching retirement, how many ofyou have considered what options are available.

Those of you who are lucky enough to be members ofa Final Salary Occupational Pension Scheme, yourpension benefits will be determined by the amount ofpensionable years service you have put in during youremployment with the company. These are known asDefined Benefits.

If you are not a member of a Defined Benefit scheme, you may be a member of an Occupational MoneyPurchase Scheme, a member of a Group PersonalPension scheme, a Stakeholder Personal Pension,

a Personal Pension or a SIPP. If so, you will have to

consider and decide which option to take when you

retire.

Currently, the most popular option is to buy a

Compulsory Annuity. You may take up to 25% of your

pension fund as tax free cash, and buy the Annuity

with the residue of the fund. The annuity provider will

take your residue pension fund and in return, provide

you with an income for life. This can be taken in

various ways. For instance, you may want to build a

spouse’s benefit into the plan, or you may choose an

income which is linked to inflation, subject to limits.

If you have more than one fund, you can amalgamate

your funds together to purchase your Annuity. Once

purchased, you cannot alter how your income is

taken. Therefore it is essential to take independent

financial advice regarding the suitability of your

Annuity purchase. Buying the Annuity offered by your

Pension provider, may not always be the best option.

Annuities are typically purchased by people who want

little future risk with their income. However, there could

be possible drawbacks. Current Annuity rates are low

compared to previous past years. In the event of

premature death, the income received may be lower

than the original fund value, however a spouse’s

benefit or a built in guarantee can help offset this risk.

An alternative to the security of an Annuity is

Unsecured Pension (USP), previously known as

Income Drawdown. This option would normally be

considered if you don’t want a guaranteed income,

and are happy to leave the residue of your pension

fund invested. This option is usually more suitable for

larger pension funds.

Due to low Annuity rates, USP has become more

popular in recent years. It still provides the option of

up to 25% of your pension fund as tax free cash, but

offers a more flexible income. In contrast to buying an

annuity, the residue of the fund remains invested,

therefore creating an element of risk with your pension

fund.

One of the benefits of USP is the flexibility of how

much income you can take. For instance, you may not

need the maximum income available. This may be

due to other sources of income, such as a part time

job or income from other pensions, or it may be for

income tax purposes. Remember that your

pensionable income is subject to tax at your highest

rate. Therefore, if your existing income is approaching

the higher rate band, you could push your annual

income into the tax band of 40% by taking too much

pension. USP provides more options in the event of

death. A surviving spouse has the option of taking a

return of fund (subject to 35% tax), continue in USP, or

buy an annuity.

As USP is more complex and riskier than buying an

annuity, it’s imperative to take independent financial

advice before considering this type of arrangement.
