Becoming a Disciple Leader
&An Employable Quality Graduate
I hope that you are not afraid of tough classes. I never did have a“cinch” class. I hope that you are not afraid of lengthy periods ofpreparation. Burn the midnight oil. Don’t procrastinate like myolder sister, who after a late date rationalized, “I have a testtomorrow, but I am weary. What is more important, my health ormy test? Aha, my health! I need my sleep.” So she slept. I won’tsay what happened to the test.
Consider this counsel from President Thomas S. Monson onpreparing for your life’s work
You simply have to apply yourself. I hope that you want to be sowell equipped that you can compete in this competitive world. Ihope that you will learn to take responsibility for your decisions, whether they be in your courses of study which you elect to take,or whether they be in the direction of the academic attainmentswhich you strive to achieve.
President Monson Cont.
Should you become discouraged or feel burdened down, rememberthat others have passed this same way; they have endured and thenhave achieved. When we have done all that we are able to do, wecan then rely on God’s promised help.
CES Fireside for Young Adults – 7 September 2003

Take Responsibility
Don’t let life determine for you what you are going to be. You will want to take that responsibility on yourself.
Moving Forward
"Revelation comes on the Lord's timetable, which often means we must move forward in faith, even though we haven't received all the answers we desire.“

Careers – Direction of Travel?
Career Decisions
In choosing an occupation, please be mindful of what you do best—not just what you like to do but where your aptitudes are and where the gifts and talents are that you have been given. Then ask yourself, Where can I get the best training experiences to develop my talents? Look for the college or company where you can make a contribution and continue your learning and training….
Career Decisions
Take an opportunity to observe how someone else is doing it right. Then you will gain the experience and the confidence to be able to do it yourself. Whatever endeavor you want to explore, associate with people who have valuable experience…. Associate with people who really know what they are doing.
RETURN, Pg. 227‐8
Take Responsibility
Don’t drift through life and let random living decide for you what you are going to be or what you are going to do with your life.
RETURN, pg. 228

Take Responsibility
When I was a teenager, I helped my father varnish the floor in a downstairs room in our house. He watched me as I slowly painted myself into a corner and had no way to get out without stepping across the freshly shellacked floor. I asked, What do I do? I’ll never forget his answer: “Robert, don’t ever do that in your life.”
Career Decisions
The Lord expects us to become educated to collect the riches of eternity so that we will be better prepared to be a good companion and father or mother and able to provide for our family.

“In a world that grows increasingly dark because of distrust, cynicism, and unethical behavior …graduates of Brigham Young University–Idaho must radiate the light of integrity and honesty. This university, one of the Lord's
universities, will ultimately be recognized as an institution where integrity and honesty are as common and consistent as a windy afternoon in Rexburg.”

This photo was originally owned by Elder Matthew Cowley, the late Apostle and Elder Glen L. Rudd’s mission president and dear friend. It was given to Elder Rudd as a gift and remains an apt symbol of its current owner, whose life has been defined by gospel work and effort to better the temporal and spiritual welfare of others.
