Bluffton facility to increase to over300,000 sf

GROB Systems, Inc., which is partof the GROB Machine Tool Group, isexpanding its existing facility by add-ing 46,365 square feet of floor space to

the current 257,000 square foot plant tobuild customer orders. This expansion isexpected to increase capacity to manu-facture machine tools for the powertraincomponents group, and eventually main-tain or increase GROB Systems currentmarket share.

The expansion will also add 109 park-ing spaces to accommodate additionalemployees. The companys fixed assetinvestment will include building renova-tions and leaseholder improvements. Itproposes to hire engineers, administrativestaff, and operations staff.

The company expects to create 113 newfull-time positions. The average wage ofthe jobs will be $15 per hour, plus $3.08per hour in benefits.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority ap-proved a 45%, seven-year tax credit toGROB Systems for the creation of $3.5million in additional annual payroll at

the project location and will retain $17.6million in existing payroll. The Authorityrequires the company to maintain opera-tions at the Village of Bluffton site for atleast ten years.

According to the Tax Credit Authority, the job creation tax credit is a major factorin GROB Systems decision to expand inOhio. The automotive industry is experi-encing increased demand for productionequipment for powertrain componentsdue to delayed investment during the pastseveral years. This increased demand, andan opportunity to accommodate growth, isdriving the companys expansion project.State support will help defray the costsof hiring additional employees and posi-tion the company to take advantage of thisgrowth opportunity. In addition, the com-pany will claim the tax credit on incometax revenue generated at the project loca-tion in excess of the companys baseline

income tax revenue at the project site. The credit began in January and will

    end December 2018.

The Ohio Department of Development(ODOD) also approved $7.9 million inloans for GROB Systems. These loansinclude an Ohio Enterprise Bond Fund(OEBF) loan in the amount of $6.4 mil-lion and a 166 Direct Loan for $1.5 mil-lion. The terms of both loans will be for aperiod of 15 years.

GROB Systems, Inc. designs, builds, and installs metal cutting machines, au-tomation, gantries, assembly andtest equipment, and completeturn-key production lines for cus-tomers. The company, incorpo-rated in 1981, is based in Bluff-ton, Ohio. The parent company,GROB Machine Tool Group, wasfounded in 1926 in Munich, Ger-many, and moved its headquar-ters to Mindelheim in 1972. Ithas three plants: Bluffton, Ohio;Mindelheim, Germany; and So

Paulo, Brazil. The company em-ploys approximately 4,000 indi-viduals worldwide.

    Health/Medical

This year is going to be filled with uncertainty for thehealth care industryand, as a result, for health care com-munications. For starters, the Patient Protection and Af-fordable Care Act will continue to reshape our health caresystem, and the Supreme Court will also decide whether an

individual health care mandate is constitutional. But even with so many political, economic and regula-

tory questions hanging in the air, here are four trends thatwill affect health care communications in 2012.

Trend No. 1: The increasing role of social media inhealth care

In 2011, we saw a new trend of more empowered, en-gaged and better informed patients. Last year, more than80 percent of Internet users went online for health-relatedinformation, to share their experiences and find much-needed support. While more than two-thirds of physicians

used social media for professional purposes. And thesefigures continue to grow.

In 2012, we will see patients forming closer relation-ships with health care providers and health care brands. This e-patient engagement will force the health care in-dustry to evolve and become an active participant in social

media.Social media gives health care communicators a com-

pletely new way to engage with health care professionalsand patients directly and through online communities. Inturn, companies can then tap into these communities to

educate patients and gain invaluable research and market-ing insights.

Most importantly, social media offers an extraordinaryopportunity to promote public health, improve health de-livery and create more productive relationships betweenpatients and physicians.

Trend No. 2: An explosive growth in mobile market-ing

In 2011, health care professionals surprised the indus-try by rapidly adopting mobile technologiesat a rate fasterthan patients. By now, more than 80 percent of doctors owna smartphone and 40 percent use a medical app for workpurposes.

Health apps organically integrate with physicians ev-eryday activities: they can be used for medical and drugreference, to share EMR data and educate patients through

images, video and other resources.Mobile technology is a unique communications vehicle, and it will allow us to micro-target consumers when theyare on the go and at other times when they are open tobrand communications. Also, it will give us a new way tobuild long-term relationships through offering high-value,client-focused content.

Trend No. 3: The growing need for integrated com-munications and highly targeted messages

In 2012, successful health care communicators willhave to offer even greater value than before: they will beresponsible for integrating earned, paid and owned media. As health care brands are getting more engaged with digital

and mobile strategies, they will be required to integrate PR,advertising, marketing and digital in a bundle that comple-ments and amplifies a companys message.

In addition, the health care industry is moving frommass-producing to concentrating on smaller, more focused

groups of clients. Health care PR will echo this trend byshifting from mass marketing to very targeted communica-tions. And digital technologies are here to assist us.

Trend No. 4: Focusing on measuring successThe days of ad equivalency and impressions are gone.

Communications teams will be under pressure to show howtheir initiatives translate into sales, new leads and potentialbusiness ventures. The function as a whole will be movingfrom measuring outputs (number of interviews and stories, figures on op-eds and press releases placed, and websitevisits) to outtakes (changes in awareness, opinion, behav-ior that impact a companys business objectives).

It is time to develop meaningful PR metrics. We, atSpector & Associates, are currently testing a measuringtool that will offer our clients an opportunity to truly under-stand the value of public relations. Stay tuned for a white

paper.Tying communications activities to a companys busi-ness objectives boosts C-Suite confidence in our abilitiesas PR professionals, reinforces PRs stature, especially inhealth care, and makes winning budgets easier.

These are just some of my predictions for health carecommunications 2012. What are yours?
