business– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. This program is designed for students with an interest in all aspects of business. The program provides students with general business know-how and the ability to build a customized curriculum to suit their needs and personal career goals through a wide variety of business electives. After a foundational first year, students choose courses in subject areas as diverse as supervisory management, green business, entrepreneurship, accounting, and web design. Students who would like a broad exposure to business and desire a career in business management, whether in a large organization or a family business, will find this program particularly appealing. Fanshawe College’s Business Diploma is the ideal start to a business career. Students in this program are eligible to participate in international exchange programs in the Netherlands and Finland, gaining international experience while earning credits toward their diploma.

BuSIneSS - ACCOunTInG– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option (laptop required for second year). Designed to prepare graduates to work in an accounting environment at the entry or intermediate accounting level, the program starts with accounting fundamentals then moves to detailed accounting principles and concepts, including computerized accounting. Graduates will have the skills required for success in a corporate accounting department in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, merchandising, banks, and other financial institutions. Graduates also work in public accounting firms and federal, provincial, and municipal government offices. This program is an ideal starting point for those seeking a professional designation, as graduates may also apply program credits towards a professional accounting designation (e.g., CA, CGA, or CMA) and/or transfer to the third year of Fanshawe’s Business Administration - Accounting program.

BuSIneSS AdMInISTRATIOn - accounting – a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program (laptop required). The program curriculum covers advanced topics in accounting with a focus on management functions and includes courses in auditing, financial management and controllership, cost and managerial accounting, and strategic policy and planning. The program provides a number of credits that can be transferred to a professional accounting designation (e.g., CA, CGA, or CMA) and used toward a university degree. Many employment opportunities are available for graduates in industry, public accounting, and government where they will work in a variety of roles, including accounting, finance, and tax.

BuSIneSS - FInAnCe– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. This program is designed to develop the skills needed to work in the financial services sector, from customer service to wealth management and financial planning. Students will learn to work with clients, evaluating their needs and offering advice on personal financial management, tax and retirement planning, insurance, investments, and estate planning. Qualified graduates will have completed all the educational requirements leading to the CFP® (Certified Financial Planner®) designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council. Students are also prepared to write the Canadian Securities Course® and Life Licensing Qualification Program examinations as prerequisites to securities and life insurance licensing. Graduates are well positioned to begin their career in the financial sector.

business Foundations – a one-year Ontario College Certificate program designed to build fundamental business skills. With small classes, this program is ideal for students who need to strengthen math or other foundational skills before entering a two-year business diploma program, mature students who are preparing to re-enter the workforce, and international students who would benefit from a customized curriculum. In the first semester, students will take courses in customer service and business communication, while improving computer and math skills. As the second semester of Business Foundations is identical to the common first semester shared by all two-year diploma programs in the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, graduates may choose to transfer directly into the second semester of any business diploma program; alternatively, they may enter the workforce in the retail or service sectors.

BuSIneSS - HuMAn ReSOuRCeS – a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. Students will learn business basics such as accounting, communications, and computer applications; then focus on HR subjects such as training, recruitment, compensation, benefits, and payroll, with the opportunity to achieve the PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation from the Canadian Payroll Association. (For more information, refer to www.payroll.ca.) In addition, students will have the opportunity to achieve six Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) credits. (Refer to the HRPA website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) HR students will participate in a mentorship with HR mentors to observe HR professionals at work and experience first-hand the HR workplace environment. Students will create an HR-specific career portfolio to make their job search easier. Graduates are in demand for jobs in recruiting, payroll administration, compensation and benefits, and training and development. Graduates may also apply to transfer to the third year of Fanshawe’s Business Administration – Human Resources program (advanced diploma).

BuSIneSS AdMInISTRATIOn - HuMAn ResouRces– a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma (laptop required). Building on the curriculum of the two-year Business – Human Resources program, students acquire and demonstrate industry standard skills in the core human resources functional areas: recruitment and selection, training and development, human resources planning, occupational health and safety, organizational behaviour, finance and accounting, human resources management, compensation and benefits, and labour relations. Students have the opportunity to complete all nine Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) credits. (Refer to the Human Resources Professionals Association website for more information: www.hrpa.ca.) Upon completion of the Advanced Diploma, students will also have a sound base in analytical skills, professional communication, payroll administration, leadership and dispute resolution. Further infused in the program are a number of experiential learning opportunities (e.g., mentorship, HR Community Consultancy), where students interact with human resources professionals in the field.

BuSIneSS - InSuRAnCe– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. This program is designed to prepare students for positions in the property and casualty insurance industry. Students will study forms of general insurance, underwriting, claims investigation, risk analysis, and contracts. Students may be able to complete nine of ten credits toward their Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation issued by the Insurance Institute of Canada and one credit toward their Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) designation. Graduates work in high-demand areas of insurance such as underwriting, claims adjusting, brokerage or agency services, and risk management.

BuSIneSS - MARkeTInG– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. This program provides students with a strong foundation to gain entry to a variety of business career paths. Courses cover topics such as customer analysis, segmentation, and targeting; integrated marketing communications; pricing and distribution strategies and product and service development and management. Hands-on activities include market research studies, advertising campaigns, sales and business plans with many of these activities involving live clients from industry. Students learn to use current software programs, including presentation, spreadsheet, graphic design and publishing applications. Graduates receive full credit toward a credential with the Canadian Institute of Marketing. Students in the Marketing program are eligible to participate in international exchange programs in the Netherlands and in Finland, gaining international experience while earning credits toward their diploma. Graduates who meet admission requirements can continue into the Business Administration - Marketing program and complete an Ontario College Advanced Diploma.

BuSIneSS AdMInISTRATIOn - MARkeTInG – a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma program (laptop required). Through a curriculum that builds on the Business - Marketing program, students acquire and practice skills in a number of specialized marketing disciplines, including sports, entertainment and event marketing, market research, customer relationship management, global marketing, sales management, new media marketing, and web design. A unique feature of the program is Fanshawe’s collaborative relationship with Google, which allows students to gain experience in search engine marketing (SEM) and search engine optimization by running live campaigns for real clients using Google Adwords and Google Analytics. The program prepares students to pursue Google designations which are in high demand but not widely available. Applied learning is further enhanced through projects requiring students to help solve real problems for community organizations that target business, consumer, international, and not-for-profit markets. Graduates of the program will have superior analytical, decision-making, and communication skills and the ability to succeed in a variety of functional areas, including SEM, sales, market research, advertising and promotion, event planning, direct marketing, database marketing, promotions management, brand management, and media sales.

OFFICe AdMInISTRATIOn - GeneRAl – a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. Students will be introduced to a variety of computer applications, the fundamentals of manual and computerized accounting systems, office procedures, verbal and written communication skills, and understanding workplace behaviours. Utilizing these skills, graduates will be capable of producing business documents and correspondence, presenting information, providing customer support, responding to routine inquiries, working independently and as part of a team, and supporting the management of a small organization or a department in a large organization. Graduates will have entry-level job opportunities as a receptionist, accounting clerk, customer service representative, or administrative assistant.

OFFICe AdMInISTRATIOn - MedICAl– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program. This program will help students develop the specialized skills required to provide support in a medical office. Students will learn about medical terminology and transcription, billing, patient management, office procedures, ethics, and research, while mastering current software and systems used in medical offices today. Graduates will have skills that are invaluable to any medical environment and will be ready to work as a medical secretary, medical team assistant, administrative assistant, office assistant, medical records clerk, medical office coordinator, clerk, or receptionist. As well students will gain valuable work experience in a four-week work placement.

BuSIneSS - PuRCHASInG– a two-year Ontario College Diploma with a co-op option. The program adheres to the curriculum of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) – Certificate in Supply Management Program, allowing students to apply for PMAC’s Certificate in Supply Management, a designation recognized by employers across Canada. The curriculum covers theory and application of supply management in private and public sector environments. Specifically, courses address material sourcing, transportation methods, inventory, retail management, negotiation skills, and analytical techniques. Students also enhance their computer skills and their business communication skills. Graduates, equipped with the skills required to improve an organization’s profitability and operations, are in high demand in both the private and public sector.

CuSTOMeR SeRvICe FundAMenTAlS - InSuRAnCe– a one-year Ontario College Certificate program. This program is designed to give students an overview of business and insurance theory and practice with a focus on customer service and distribution systems. Graduates will be prepared to work in an insurance brokerage, agency or direct insurance writer’s office in an entry-level, customer service capacity. Students may be able to obtain the General Insurance Essentials Certificate from the Insurance Institute of Canada, subject to passing the national examinations. Graduates of this program may also continue their studies by transferring into the second year of Fanshawe’s two-year Business - Insurance Ontario College Diploma program.

lAW CleRk– a two-year Ontario College Diploma program with a co-op option. Students will develop a solid foundation for employment as a member of a legal team in a law firm, corporation, financial institution, insurance company, legal technology provider, title insurance provider, or government office providing services related to civil litigation, corporate, commercial, family, criminal law, debtor and creditor rights, landlord and tenant, estate and contract administration. Substantive law theory and hands-on practice with leading-edge legal software applications are integrated throughout the program. Curriculum has been accredited by the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) for membership.

OFFICe AdMInISTRATIOn - exeCuTIve – a two-year Ontario College Diploma co-op program designed to give students a solid foundation in business operations. Students will learn to integrate their expert-level computer skills with their communication, interpersonal, organization, time management, and leadership skills to provide the administrative support that is vital within every organization. After completing this professional program that emphasizes practical skills and the importance of exceptional customer service, graduates will have the ability to oversee budgets, supervise and train others, organize meetings, plan conferences, produce desktop-published documents, perform research, and present reports. Students may attend meetings of the London Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

pRoFessional Financial seRvices – a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month semesters. This program is designed to leverage a university or college credential by providing a fast track to a career as a professional financial planner. An intensive curriculum prepares graduates to provide clients with professional advice to build wealth and ensure financial security through setting goals, managing finances, minimizing tax, managing life’s risks, and building investment portfolios. The curriculum focuses on the Certified Financial Planner® CFP®, with the CFP designation awarded by the Financial Planning Standards Council www.fpsc.ca. Students also have the opportunity to complete the Canadian Securities Course® CSC® and Life Licensing Qualification Program. Upon successful completion of the program and external examinations, graduates are well equipped with skills and credentials to enter a wide variety of careers in banking, investment, insurance, credit, and financial planning.

Beyond the core curriculum, the program also offers courses in human resources information systems (HRIS), Canadian employment law, management of strategic HR projects, and professional communications. A unique experiential learning opportunity is available to select students through the HR Community Consultancy offered in the final semester of the program.

inteRnational business MAnAGeMenT – a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month-semesters (laptop required). Students will develop the skills to effectively investigate, analyze, manage, and direct most aspects of international trade. Students work with real businesses, helping small and medium exporters capitalize on global opportunities, as preparation for various careers in the ever-expanding global economy. Professors have relevant and practical expertise in international trade, investment, marketing, finance, and business management. Graduates will receive an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in International Business Management and, upon meeting FITT criteria on two major projects sent for external grading, a Diploma in International Trade from the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT). Graduates who then work for one year in international business and meet other FITT criteria can subsequently earn the Certified International Trade Professional designation (CITP).

MARkeTInG MAnAGeMenT – a one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program, completed in two four-month semesters (laptop required). This program is designed for university and college graduates with a degree or diploma in business or a related field who wish to broaden their skills-base in all functional areas of marketing. Students interact with marketing as a broad set of activities and decisions that must be made about a product or service to satisfy customer needs. Students develop skills in a number of specialized marketing disciplines, including new media marketing, event marketing, market research, direct marketing, and web design. In addition, a course in search engine marketing prepares students to pursue Google designations. Small classes and real-life issues from community organizations help students learn and apply practical skills demanded by today’s dynamic businesses. Graduates have career opportunities in search engine marketing, sales, marketing research, advertising and promotion, event planning, direct marketing, database marketing, promotions, brand management, and media sales.
