What are the departments at LJMU like?

The Liverpool Business School (LBS) is a modern and student-centred business school with a track record of nearly 40 years of serving the regional business community. We provide a responsive business education that prepares graduates for business and management careers and business professions (accounting, marketing, public relations, human resource management, etc.) We are proud of our approach to providing business education, which emphasises practical knowledge and its application, delivered by supportive and approachable staff. All students also have the opportunity to complete an optional placement year alongside a suitable employer from their chosen sector.

LJMU’s School of Law hosted the UK’s first ever National Mediation Competition and our student team was recently crowned world champions at the INADR Inaugural Invitations Law Schools Mediation Tournament in Dubai. The academic team is made up of solicitors, barristers, former police officers, commercial professionals and academics, giving you a solid grounding in all aspects of the law. This combination of professional expertise and active research interests feed directly into the curriculum, ensuring the topics you cover are relevant to today’s law professional.

Who is the Summer University for?The Summer University is for Year 12 students (or first year of Sixth Form College) or those students in Year 13 (or equivalent) who haven’t yet applied to UCAS.

Where will I stay?Your accommodation will be modern, purpose-built student halls of residence in the heart of Liverpool. You will be in a flat of four students with one student mentor in each flat. Males and females stay in different flats. Each flat has a kitchen and shared lounge and all bedrooms have en-suite facilities.

How much will it cost? All places are completely free. We will organise and pay for all of your meals and snacks, entertainment, accommodation and all activities. All that you need to do is arrange your travel to and from Liverpool on the dates of the Summer University.

Is the SU safe?Yes. The SU is run by staff who are experienced in working with sixth form students and who are trained in Child Protection – they are supported by student mentors who will supervise activities and live in the student flats with you. University premises are safe and the student flats have 24 hour security, night porters, CCTV and secure entry systems. If you travel to the SU yourself, we will make sure you are met and also see you away safely at the end. If there are any problems, day or night, there will always be someone there to help.

Can I come with my friends? If you and your friends want to come along together then that is fine, we will accommodate groups in the same flat wherever possible.
