©2011 CF A Page 1 CfA Apprenticeship Events – SASE Framework Summary: Business & Administration SASE Requirements Overview The Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE) specifies that Apprenticeship frameworks must contain the following areas: A competence- based qualification (e.g. NVQ), a knowledge-based qualification (e.g. Technical Certificate), or a joint competence and knowledge-based qualification. Frameworks must also include relevant Functional Skills or Key Skills, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and must formally cover the Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR). Guided Learning Hours must also be recorded for each framework. Business & Administration Overview There are three pathways within the Business & Administration Apprenticeship Framework at both level 2 and level 3, covering general Business & Administration; Legal Administration; and Medical Administration. The CfA propose to meet the SASE requirements for its Business & Administration framework through the following components.

    SASE Requirements Overview The Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE) specifies that Apprenticeship frameworks must contain the following areas: A competence-based qualification (e.g. NVQ), a knowledge-based qualification (e.g. Technical Certificate), or a joint competence and knowledge-based qualification.     Business & Administration Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 Competence Qualification The Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Business & Administration Knowledge Qualification The Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business & Administration; OR The Level 2 Certificate for Legal Secretaries; OR The Level 2 Diploma in Medical Administration Functional Skills or Key Skills Level 1 Functional Skill/Key Skill in English/Communication Level 1 Functional Skill/Key Skill in Mathematics/Application of Number Level 1 Functional Skill/Key Skill in ICT ERR activities If undertaking the Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business & Administration, the ERR information will be embedded within this qualification. If the other knowledge-based elements are undertaken, then the ERR workbook will need to be completed as a mandatory element of the framework. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills PLTS must be embedded in the learning undertaken throughout the Intermediate Apprenticeship. A mapping document has been developed showing the relationship between the PLTS and the mandatory elements of the framework qualifications, supported by a guidance document providing additional information on how PLTS can be embedded in delivery. Guided Learning Hours

    Intermediate (Level 2) Business and Administration (general): o The total on- and off-the-job GLH for the framework is 575 hours. o The total off-the-job GLH is 270 hours (47% of total GLH) for

    the framework, which takes an average of 12 months to complete. Intermediate (Level 2) Business and Administration (legal):

    o The total on- and off-the-job GLH for the framework is 755 hours. o The total off-the-job GLH is 410 hours (54% of total GLH) for

    the framework, which takes an average of 12 months to complete.

    Intermediate (Level 2) Business and Administration (medical): o The total on- and off-the-job GLH for the framework is 865 hours. o The total off-the-job GLH is 490 hours (57% of total GLH) for

    the framework, which takes an average of 12 months to complete.

    Business & Administration Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 Competence Qualification The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business & Administration Knowledge Qualification The Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Business & Administration; OR The Level 3 Certificate for Legal Secretaries; OR The Level 3 Diploma in Medical Administration Functional Skills or Key Skills Level 2 Functional Skill/Key Skill in English/Communication Level 2 Functional Skill/Key Skill in Mathematics/Application of Number Level 2 Functional Skill/Key Skill in ICT ERR activities If undertaking the Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Business & Administration, the ERR information will be embedded within this qualification.     which a minimum of 280 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.

    o The total off-the-job GLH is 270 hours (35% of total GLH) for the framework, of which a minimum of 100 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.

    Level 3 Business and Administration (legal):

    o The total on- and off-the-job GLH for the framework is 955 hours, of which a minimum of 280 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.

    o The total off-the-job GLH is 420 hours (44% of total GLH) for the framework, of which a minimum of 100 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.

    Level 3 Business and Administration (medical):

    o The total on- and off-the-job GLH for the framework is 1125 hours, of which a minimum of 280 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.

    o The total off-the-job GLH is 545 hours (48% of total GLH) for the framework, of which a minimum of 100 hours must take place within the first 12 months and the remainder over the rest of the 18 month programme.
