Work placementThis degree integrates over 200 days of qualifyingtechnical work experience with PwC, divided across thesecond, third and fourth years.

Your three work placements add up to approximately half ofthe approved technical work experience required by ICAEWin order to qualify as a chartered accountant.

By joining PwC's Assurance team you will work on realprojects for real clients. You will experience a range ofclients, develop new skills and gain a broad knowledge ofbusiness issues.

You'll also receive an attractive salary with paid holidayduring your placement.

There are opportunities across the UK, and PwC will providepractical help and financial relocation assistance should youneed it.

Your placements in Stages 2 and 3 run from January toEaster. Before each placement, in December, you receive abespoke PwC training programme. After each placement,you return to the University for the summer term, placementdebrief, final tuition and assessment.   In Stage 4, yourplacement runs from mid-November to Easter. You gainfurther auditing experience and are likely to be supervisingothers.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching methodsModules are taught by a mixture of lectures, seminars,workshops and tutorials.

Additional Information on GCSEs (or equivalent)Achievement of a minimum of five GCSE grades A*-C or8-4, or equivalent, is normally required. These must includeMathematics (minimum grade A or 7) and English (minimumgrade B or 6), or equivalent.

A LevelsAAB excluding General Studies. While we are willing toconsider any combination of A-level subjects (excludingGeneral Studies), we prefer students to be studying twofacilitating subjects. GCSE Mathematics grade A or 7 andGCSE English grade B or 6 required if not taken at A or ASlevel.

Extended Project QualificationWe welcome applications from students offering anExtended Project and value the skills of research andindependent learning that it is designed to develop.  If youoffer an Extended Project, it will be taken into account aspart of your application profile, but we will not usuallyinclude it in offer conditions for this degree programme.

Business Accounting andFinance careersWe enjoy a good reputation for producing highly employablegraduates. In addition to technical skills, we teach ourstudents to use their initiative and be self-reliant.

Our students also develop the key skills employers arelooking for, such as communication skills, the ability to workin a team, personal enterprise, and commercial awareness.

Knowledge of accounting, finance, economics and law,together with the analytical and interpersonal skills that youwill acquire while studying at Newcastle, provide you with agood foundation for the future.

The Business Accounting and Finance programme offers afast track to one particular destination - the qualification as aChartered Accountant. Graduates in accounting and financedo not have to become accountants, although in practicemany of our graduates do.

There are different types of accountant and withinaccounting firms there are a number of specialisms whichyou can choose, such as audit and assurance, taxation, andsometimes insolvency and corporate finance. Somestudents also choose to undertake further study, often herein Newcastle.

Recent graduates have found employment in globallyrecognised companies including:

It is worth stressing that a professional accountingqualification can open the door to a wide range of seniorpositions. For example, a high proportion of the chiefexecutive officers of FTSE-100 companies are accountantsby training.
